I laugh at your pathetic examples (except for Monty Python) of Sketch shows. In Australia we have a long tradition of Sketch comdey that dates back to Graham Kennedy and Bert Newton in the early years of Broadcasting in the fifties. In fact I can't think of a single program on Australian television that hasn't done a sketch at some point. BUt the Glory days where the Eighties and Nineties and it was perhaps the Dgeneration that marked the start, with such classics as Thunderbird's Pizza. We then had Fast Forward, Full Frontal, Comdey Company and Totally Full frontal, Big Girls BLouse and Something Stupid. Wether parodying television or everyday life you always cracked up laughing. It also gave use many iconic characters such Uncle Arthur, Con the Fruiterer and a host of Madga Subanski creations. Its infulence continues today despite only one show surviving the small revival a few years back. Kath and Kim where orginally characters on Big Girls Blouse, Chirs Liley was recently able to spin off his popular creation from The Big Bite, Mr. G, into Summer Heights High a mockumentary style program and the Chasers War on everthing is evidently informed by every parody of news and a current affairs ever on Australian television. Even thank god your here owes part of its lineage to Sketch Comdey. Additionally about 6o% of people on Australian television got their start in Skecth comdey. The only ones who do it better is Great Britian with the best perhaps being Dead Ringers. By the way animated Sketch comdey robot chicken so totally stole the channel flicking thing from fast forward, they merely added the chicken.
