Star Trek: The Next Generation

This thread will, obviously, be for discussion of the late, great, but still running show, Star Trek: The Next Generation! Enjoy!

Make it so!

This was the only Star Trek series I ever truly liked. Every other series was really messed up most of the time.

My favorite character is defiantly Q. He could do anything but with all that power at his disposal most of the time he played games with the Enterprise crew just to screw with them, which made great episodes. Oh man, he was hilarious.

Indeed, Q is hilarious. MY favorite character is Data, though. His quest to become human was my favorite part of the show, that and Lieutenant Barkley's episodes.

Re: Star Trek: The Next Generation

Q appeared in Star Trek: Voyager too.

But yes. For some odd reasons, Star Trek: TNG actually had a nice storyline. Each episode was well-acted out. Very little fighting, but the mood they created was very very nice.

Not to post-whore my own thread, but I'm so glad that there are TNG fans out there! Tell your friends about this thread, I want to have some serious TNG discussions.

Q was also in one episode of Deep Space Nine.

Unfortunately, though I declare myself a Star Trek fan, I haven't seen all that many episodes of Next Generation, seen a few, and seen all the movies. When I got into Trek, Next Generation wasn't showing on TV here anymore, aside from the odd episode every now and then. It's one of the reasons I want pay TV so that I can finally see the Trek I haven't seen. Of the movies, First Contact is my favourite, then Nemesis, then Generations and then Insurrection. Insurrection felt to me just like an extended TV episode and the bad guy wasn't very captivating.

Re: Star Trek: The Next Generation

Star Trek: TNG can be seen daily on Spike TV (about 3-5 PM) and on G4 every night from 8 to 10 PM. If you meant that you have an antenna as opposed to cable or satellite, find someone at your school to mooch off of for TV...it's the first step I would take.

Re: Star Trek: The Next Generation

I live in Australia, and only get free to air television. The University has cable, but not the channel that shows Star Trek (and I'm not at University all that often anyway). My friend does have cable with the required channel, but he's always busy with University, and I doubt he would appreciate me coming over just to watch Star Trek

Re: Star Trek: The Next Generation

Could've sworn I replied to this just a few minutes ago.

Anyway, my favourite episode that I saw was Best of Both Worlds, Part I, don't think I saw the conclusion. Good episode that. You always know you're in for a treat when the Borg are involved. Even though I didn't get to watch the show very often, I did read up on it in the Star Trek Fact Files, my family collected that for a while but stopped after just under 100 issues.

Re: Star Trek: The Next Generation

That's the one where Picard is assimilated into a Borg as Locutus. The conclusion is pretty crazy- do you want a spoiler? Or should I wait...

My favorite episode would have to be "All Good Things... Part 1-2" In that episode, Picard is accused of causing the destruction of humanity. The plot resembles the way Oedipus screws himself over in Oedipus the King. Except Picard figures Q's (oops) plot out...

I never cared for any of the Star Trek series except for TNG. It was a great show.

I know how Best of Both Worlds ended, and I don't think anyone can say spoilers about a show that ended twelve years ago. And I know about All Good Things, the last episode of the series, I quite liked the Enterprise D with the three warp nacelles. Haven't seen the ep though, read through the Star Trek Fact Files about it, plus from time to time I'll browse through the episodes on startrek.com

Re: Star Trek: The Next Generation

Sporky can forget about pay televison at the moment. You see I'm the disposable income at our place and I'm already paying for the internet. Plus I don't want to to pay for sports and news channels I would never watch, but the only company you can go through here isn't tailoring a package with just cartoon network and TV1 and other channels withing that range.

But anyway yeah all star trek is good, but I never really got why people considered TNG the be all and end all. But yeah I really liked the Data journey that was through out the next generation (luck enough to catch some imporatant milestone episodes and Data has all the major subplots of the movies). For those of you that liked the series I highly reccomend you go read the "time to" series of TNG novels which leads up to Nemesis. Includes an awsome bit of worfs final days as ambassador to the klingon empire where he has to go all die hard in the embassy.

Re: Star Trek: The Next Generation

I love the episode where in TNG, the entire Enterprise was flung across the galaxy by this alien called the "traveller". It was amazing. They were on the otherside of the universe or something and everything there was so insanely abstracted and the such.

And The Traveller meant that Wesley Crusher wouldn't be on anymore, wooo! You can see Wesley in the back ground of the wedding in Nemesis, he had some lines filmed, but they were cut from the film. Although, apparently in that bit, they didn't explain anything about The Traveller and why Wesley was back, though there was some mention of him returning to Starfleet, he was ensign or something, even though he never finised Starfleet Academy in the show. I guess he must've returned for some reason, finished the Academny and went into starfleet.

Another thing in Nemesis, there's no explanation of why Worf was there. A line in the script that got cut I think said that Worf said a politician's life was not suited to him, even though in most 'future' episodes, Worf holds some sort of political position, and has acted quite a lot like a diplomat. Though, as Fireball said, Worf's presence on the Enterprise E in Nemesis is explained in the 'Time to' book series that leads up to the film.
