Hell's Kitchen

So I just finished watching the last episde of Hell's Kitchen. I usualy don't like the reality shows like this, but being a, aspiring chef my self I guess I can appreciate everything that goes on a bit more than other shows.

For anyone watching it who hasn't seen the last episode yet I won't say that Dave obviously won, but I did predict the top 3 in order after the first episode.

What do you guys think of Hell's Kitchen? Has anyone played the game?

Re: Hell's Kitchen

I always watch bits and pieces of each season, but never an entire one from start to finish.

I didn't watch the second hour of the finale from this last season, but it was pretty clear who was going to win from when there were still at least six or seven people left.

Re: Hell's Kitchen

I used to watch the show all the time (but usually never an entire season.) The poor chefs have to be yelled ay by Ramsay, I bet they have nightmares of him when they're dreaming.

...Yeah, I like the show. People are always saying "I can't believe they take that abuse from him; he's such a prick", but in fairness, they signed up for a reality TV show, and everyone knows what he's like. They put up with the abuse because they get paid to do so. It's all part of the act. What I find appalling is the way a lot of them cut corners with hygiene. Remember the one that fished the spaghetti out of the bin? Or the one that tried to serve rancid crab meat? I'm glad he shouts at them: it's the quickest way to see how they deal with pressure. If someone serves rancid food just because they don't like a man shouting in their direction occasionally, then maybe they're not cut out to be a chef.

Well that's life in a kitchen. If a cook is really lucky, they'll get a nie chef. Most aren't though. The fact is that the food industry is very important and incredibly demanding. I work part time at a small bar and grill. It's not "good" food by any means (don't get me wrong, I love it but my school chef complains everytime I say that), and the customers don't exactly have high expectation. But even there I have to be on my toes and put a lot of effort into each plate I put out...except fries, hard to put effort into them.

Anyways, Ramsey is a phenominal chef, one of the few to hold 3 michellin stars. If he didn't demand that kind of performance form his cooks, he wouldn't be where he is. It isn't an act or anything, that's how he is in his real kitchens.

And ya, some of the people on there have been really stupid. But I've seen horrible hygee in real kitchens as well. Kind of sad to see how little training some people in the industry have.

Re: Hell's Kitchen

I know it's a trashy tv show, but it's entertaining trash and I must say that I love it.

Best moments of the season were Ramsay vs. "I ain't nobodies' *****" and Ramsay fishing what seemed to be pounds of either over or undercooked spaghetti out of the bin and his reaction.

But it was obvious after a couple of weeks that Dave would win.
