The Office

I'm referring to the U.S. version here.

Anyone else watch this hilarious show? I do, and I have all the DVDs except the Season 5 one. I haven't seen any of the new Season 6 episodes yet either, been too busy with homework, being lazy and stuff...

If you don't know about it, it's a show running on NBC, new episode being shown every Thursday night at 8/9 P.M. It's a mockumentary of the daily lives of workers in a paper company called Dunder Mifflin Inc. based off a British show of the same name.

Re: The Office

Wait, season 6 started already? ****. (That reminds me, I just missed the premiere of the new season of Mythbusters. Double ****.)

Anyway, the show is hilarious. I've tried to get into the British version, but it just seems boring due to the tone of their voices.

Yes, about three weeks ago as a matter of fact.

You can watch the new episodes in http://hulu.com or the NBC website.

Re: The Office

The show is past its prime. I actually stopped watching it for a few episodes last season, it got so bad, and even before that it was showing weakness.

This season has been alright, but I can't help but think that they should have ended it a long time ago.

Re: The Office

Wait, WHAT? Nolan, this show just keeps getting more interesting. I marathoned the first four seasons about a month ago (took like ten days, was ridiculous), then got the fifth season the day it came out, marathoned THAT in three days, and then two days ago watched the first three episodes of the new season and am like :OOOOOOOOO waiting to see what happens next!

Nolan, I am prepared to fight you over this. Not in an argument, just with fists. I suck at compiling arguments, you know that.

Funny you say that, because there's a British that 70s show called "Days like these." It was pretty awful.

*shrug* I started watching around the middle of the second season, I guess. I marathoned all the previous episodes, and then watched every week from there. I can say pretty definitively that the first two or three seasons were exceptionally well-written television. The balance between the comedy and the drama was pitch-perfect, the subplots and side stories were all just as strong as the main story of each episode, each character got a moment of brilliance in each episode. It was just incredible.

I'm not saying its no good now. "Stress Relief" was probably one of the funnier episodes in the history of the show. But seasons 1-3 almost every episode was a five star, now only a handful each season are. When it gets it right, its damn perfect, but more often than not these days, they get it wrong. I mean, almost ever episode with Idris Elba in it was garbage (those were the episodes I stopped watching), and he's a fantastic actor.

But I guess if you wanna fight over it, I can throw down.

Hilarious show. Some episodes are definitely better than others, but I don't think I've seen one that I haven't enjoyed.

isn't parks being cancelled?

I watch the office from time to time, It seems to be the British one is better, but then again I haven't watched a lot either. My friends love it so I watch it mostly with them. I personally can't pay attention to it half the time.

Parks and Recreation is exactly like the Office except with unfunny characters, situations, and jokes. Poehler should quit and rejoin SNL.

Once you leave SNL you aren't allowed back except as a host or cameo.

I like Poehler a lot more than Carell in their respective roles. Tom is awesome, April is awesome, and Ron Swanson is great. I feel the show has more room to develop because they aren't confined to an Office. The Office's only really good recent episodes have been when they finally take the setting out of the damn office.

Re: The Office

For someone who has watched both the British show and the US version, could you let me know if the US one is worth watching; I hear it isn't much compared to the original. I did love the British one, though, and from what I hear here I may have to give this one a look at.

PS: I assume TheDumbening is the new resident troll?

Look at it this way: The UK version only had 12 episodes, plus two specials. The US version has had 105 or so (depending on if you count the hour-long episodes as one or two) and counting. There's only so much they can have in common.

There's some character/interaction/story similarities, especially in the first season of the US version, but I'd say that other than the situation (ie they both take place in an office), they aren't that similar.
