Taking music OFF an ipod

Can this be done? If so, how?

I have a 4th Generation iPod Nano and the newest iTunes.

Re: Taking music OFF an ipod

Just go under the iPod's music and select all the songs you want to get rid of, right click, then delete.

If you're trying to transfer it to your computer from the ipod, I think the program I have is ipod rescue. It's free, and all you have to do is click okay on a dialogue box every fifty songs or so.

If you are asking about deleting it from an Ipod do what Ignotus said.

Transfering from an Ipod to a computer is slightly more difficult, especially if you want to avoid downloading random freeware programs that are out there ( a good idea!). You have to do a bulk transfer of all the music I'm afraid.

This should work

#1 In Control Panel, Portable Media Devices, double-click your iPod.
#2 In the Tools menu -> Options, in the View Tab, check "Show hidden files and folders."
#3 Navigate to the Music folder. On my 2nd gen 'pod, the full path is
Portable Media Devices\GINA'S IPOD (F\iPod_Control\Music
# 4Select all the music folders, and drag and drop them into a folder on your hard drive, or directly into iTunes.

It's just going to be a bunch of gibberish, so have iTunes automatically order it and it wil show up all nice and pretty.

No, that won't actually solve the tagging... o_O

Thanks for the help, I'll definitely be trying this. By the way, have you tried this yourself?

I prefer to manually manage my music, since I share iTunes with 2 other siblings. Also, I just got a new computer, and there's barely any music on it right now.

Yep, I've done it twice now. Had a pretty bad virus and recovered most of my stuff, only to have a sibling accidentally reformat the drive where I had sent the recovered material instead of reformatting the damaged drive. Second time I was just missing some music on my system that I had on my iPod.

iTunes already knows all the names.
iTunes, yes, not the actual programs you want to play the music with.
