ew iTunes 9

still no FLAC/ogg/WMA/APE/XVID/DIVX/EVERYTHING support, still ****ing huge, still laggy, still a huge footprint, but hey, now you can manage programs in your iPhone inside of iTunes!

I actually want to like iTunes but this was another huge ****up from Apple... I don't care about LP mode, I want to play my FLAC files, and I don't want to use 250+ mb RAM, and I don't want a startup time of 2 minutes! I actually want to use something like iTunes, but no, it's not made for music...

Opinions?

Meh, I don't even bother with iTunes anymore. I uninstalled it ages ago. Foobar and Media Player Classic fulfill all of my media playing needs.

****ing ridiculous. I was expecting a complete rewrite. Instead, we get slightly tweaked visuals and a white background the clashes with absolutely EVERY single other part of the Mac OS, where as the black of iTunes 8 went great with Snow Leopard.

Most iPod Classic upgrades could be done via Firmware.

Seriously.

I use iTunes because I have an iPhone, and even if other programs supported it, it wouldn't support it as easily. iTunes 9 adds some interesting features like Home Sharing, which is convenient as a zer0-configuration music sharing tool, especially for people like me who use multiple computers daily. Its large footprint isn't a big deal to me anyway. 10 megs or 100 megs of RAM doesn't make a difference to me, as long as the program works. Plenty of RAM to go around.

So true. My Ipod is 4 years old now, and Itunes doesn't cater to it very well anymore.

I'm similar. iPhone forces me to use iTunes, and I hate it with a passion. I generally have to open it and kill the process several times before it will open without freezing, then everything I do takes a couple of tries.

Yea, that's the sad thing. I used to write stings for custom firmware back when the 5th gen was out. Can't do that anymore cause apple encrypted the firmware.

Home Sharing is a feature that exists in Winamp, with the difference that it isn't limited to homes. I could sit in school and listen to music from my home...
Well, in fact, it exists in all media players, the difference with iTunes? It would rewrite your home directory if that computer was shut down/didn't have net/was too slow, so you could say it was the only media player without this feature.

haha of course they do, they want people with classic ipods to upgrade and get newer/other models, and if the easiest way to do that is make them incompatible with new software then thats what they'll do. They're probably thinking right now about all you classic owners (and about your wallet).

It's sad, then, that I consider every model outside of the classic to be pretty damn inferior to the classic. Why do I need it to be touchscreen? Why does it have to be tiny? It's already smaller than my pocket. Why does it need to have a phone in it? I already have a phone.

Now, if they took the classic, and threw wifi in it I might be moved to get it. (Or made the touch have a reasonable byte/cost ratio.)

I guess the iPod Touch with the camera refresh is still coming. I wouldn't be surprised to see a price drop or a $250 16GB Touch then.

Meh. I've decided to hold off until next year when the size actually makes sense, as you are, and when there are multicore ARM processors in them. Not to mention there would be a sizable backlog of good games by then.

No, they need to make the Classic as good as some of those Nanos. It sucks that most of the new features are only limited to models other than the Classic and the Shuffle. And it so happens all of the other models so far have less memory than I need. So it's almost like I'm getting penalized for buying a lot of CDs.

I'm sorry, but I just can't bring myself to purchase a PMP with less than 30 gigs on it. 30 (What my classic has) already puts a strain on my music collection.

And frankly, I couldn't give a **** about the camera. I don't want ****ty extra features. I want a damn good PMP, and that's what my iPod Classic + iPod Linux gives me.

Do you know if there's a version of iPod Linux for the iPod touches which also gives you access to the appstore?

Re: ew iTunes 9

I only use iTunes for converting music files to a smaller bitrate so they don't take up too much space on my laptop.

If anyone know a better program for converting music files, let me know.
