How do I record audio with a microphone on my computer???

Someone suggested that I should do a commentary type thing while I record my no damage challenge. How would I do this??? From my understanding, I can't just plug the thing in and have it start recording. Also, I'm using Snagit 9 for the video recorder. Does it come with this feature to also record with a microphone? If it does, can someone help me figure this out?

Use a program like Audacity. It's free!

Re: How do I record audio with a microphone on my computer???

I agree with fratey, but I think I could give a little more description.

Audacity would be an excellent program to record audio with (I use it for this purpose myself).

As to your question about the microphone,...it depends what kind you have. If your microphone plugs into your computer using USB, then audacity will use it like plug & play, meaning that literally, you plug it in, and play with it! If you plug it into the back of your computer, near where your speakers are plugged in, then it should also work like plug & play.

If you do not wish to use Audacity, and instead want to use a program you purchased, then you might need to get a driver for the microphone.

This is done simply enough. First, find out what type of microphone you are using (who made it, what model it is, etc.), and just google "driver manufacturer model", replacing manufacturer and model with the manufacturer and model of your microphone.

Does this help?

Re: How do I record audio with a microphone on my computer???

Thanks a lot both of you. =] Y'all really helped. I don't know what type of microphone I have though......... It came as a combo with a webcam and it's one of those head sets. I tried using it with Snagit and it wont record at all no matter what I do but when I go to voice recorder in the start menu, it picks up sounds and it actually records my voice. So I think it's either I have to upgrade my audio driver or I need to configure Snagit. =]

Also, Audacity works perfect. I'm just wanting to try and get this all in one. Meaning while I play the game.......... However, if I have to, I'll do the commentary stuff separately. =]
