Bad virus :(

okay, my sister downloaded it off of limewire. it comges up w/ System security when I boot the comp up, can't get in safemode either. it changes thebackground tp: WARNING! YOU'RE IN DANGER! YOUR COMPUTERHAS SPYWARE! and other phoney stuff. can't open Avg, can't get on any browser exclusing IE , but even then can't get online.
I'm on wii net right now, any ideas/questions?

well you could take it to a place like Geek Squad and pay lots o' cash, or you could back up all your important stuff and wipe your HHD I can tell you how to do that for free!

Egh that sucks Twilight King. Sure hope you can get rid of the problem. ;-;

My dad refuses to spend any money and won't wipe it because he doesn't want to reinstal everything ;_;

Sounds like you got a nasty bit of spyware. I would just wipe the hard drive and start over, it sounds like you don't have any virus protection to begin with.

Tell your dad tough titties. If you can't convince him otherwise, try downloading avast! or something off another computer and installing it on yours.

Tell your dad too ****ing bad. From what you're telling us, it seems like your only choice is to wipe the HDD.

Back up all of the important files, then wipe the HDD and reinstall the OS. It's a pain, but it will get rid of any malware on your machine.

Word of advice: LimeWire is a piece of ****. If you're going to pirate stuff, use something like µTorrent.

Download Spybot - Search & Destroy. Run a scan, kill everything in red.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and run a scan with that as well.

If that doesn't lick it, go to these forums and ask for help. They will take care of you.

Sorry, already tried downloading stuff.just shuts the comp dad.

I'm not quite sure what you were trying to say there but there's always a way around things. If you've resolved to reformat then go with that, but if there's any important data on there you might want to take a little more time with this.

Get a decent virus program before you even start to use the net again. Like Avast! and I'm sure other people will recommend other programs. Avast! is free by the way.

We did have them, but my sister gave it permission to get on the comp.

I actually know how to fix virus' but I need you to follow my instructions step for step. Down to the last exclamation point.

Download AVG Anti-Spyware and install it.

Okay...... I need you to shut down your computer now. Then let it boot back up. Go to your default user account. Now, when it loads back up, open up AVG. Don't do anything with AVG though. Just let it sit there for a while or minimize it. Now, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and bring up the task manager. Wait for it to load. Now, make sure the task manager is on the processes tab.

Now, here's what I need.

Type all the programs that are running in wordpad or some other typing application. Even if there are a lot of applications listed. I need every single one of those listed so I can find the problem. Now go to AVG and go to the Analysis button at the top. Now, type all of those into a separate word document. Make sure you label the documents so I can see which program it is that saw the stuff you listed. Anyways, after you're done with that, get on ZU and PM me the list.

The reason I need this list is so I can see what program the Virus is named. Now, after you send me the list, I'll review it and type up the instructions of how to get rid of it.


[EDIT] If you can't download stuff, just forget the section about AVG and just list all the task manager stuff. I can still help you with just that list and we can get the AVG stuff later on when you're able to download stuff again.[/EDIT]

We can't even reformat. It takes away control of the keyboard as it's rebooting.

Ctr + alt + del doesn't open/function.

Just wipe it. I just got my laptop wiped because of that same virus. It's nasty. *gives cookie*

Not likely. Did you enter the BIOS and change the boot order to use the CD/DVD drive first?

What operating system are you running???

Hopefully Windows XP. I can get you a file that'll open the task manager so it can come up. Of course, that's only if you have Windows XP.

New problems, when we try to reformat the keyboarf goes offline when it tries to boot windows. And yes, it's 98 upgraded to XP Home edition.

okay, that'll work. =p Can you maybe get to another computer and download this file and maybe put it on a flash drive??? Then after that, move the file from the flash drive to your infected PC...... I'll give you the link to the site.

Now go to line 51 and it should be the file on the right side of the screen.

It'll say "Enable The Task Manager"

Or, if that doesn't work, go to line 113 and there should be a download called " Enable the Task Manager - Disable - Repair"

Click on the repair link and that should give you the file to repair your task manager.

But yeah, this would be easier if you had another computer at your disposal. I hope you do, because if you don't, then you'll have to take it to a professional. =[ Which the professionals will do basic crap at a high price. =/

I just thought of something.......... Can you by any chance open up the "run" window???

If you can, type in msconfig
then press enter.

If you don't have a working keyboard, just use the onscreen keyboard.

Now that you're in msconfig, go to the services tab. Click on the "Hide All Microsoft Services" Box and make sure there is a check in it.

Now, uncheck ALL of the little boxes in the window. (Except the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box)

Then Click on the Startup tab and uncheck every box in this tab. Oh yeah, I forgot...... Press apply for both tabs after you uncheck the boxes. Now press the "OK" button

It'll ask if you want to restart your computer. Click yes and let it boot up. and the virus shouldn't run for a while. That'll give you enough time to copy down the stuff in the task manager.

a) get spybot
b) put spybot on usb drive
c) put it in infected computer
d) run spybot
