Bad virus :(

If its an upgrade from windows 98 then it is a pretty old computer I take it?

It might be a smart idea to buy a new tower. Computers have never been more cost effective then they are now. Best buy has some pretty good packages with monitor included for around $500. Anyway that you look at it, your computer has been around for almost 3 major windows versions with the Launch of Windows 7 two months away. Its time to upgrade.

By the way, the reason why your keyboard is messed up is because the virus tampered with your registry files. Which is really bad. If no one's suggestions don't work, I say buy a OS disk from your computer's manufacturer and try doing a complete system format. That'll get rid of the Virus and also all the other files you've ever put on it. =/

Well, if you don't want to lose all of your files you can follow a tutorial somewhere on the internet on how to install a live Linux CD and access your files on the hard drive that way, and then transfer them to a flash drive or similar removable media...just be careful transferring .exe's, or you might backup the virus!

Once you do that, you can reinstall without losing all your files, though you will still need to reinstall all of your programs. There's pretty much no way around that because of the stupid Windows registry.

Can't be, we already formatted and it goes off when you get to the "Press enter to continue" screen.

If you already formatted and it's still messing up, then it isn't a virus. =/ It's probably just a compatibility issue with something. If you have upgraded your graphics card and sound cards, it's possible that you formatted the firmware off your computer. If that is indeed what you did, get your default chip sets and set them in the computer. Then try booting up your computer again and then download the firmwares. That's the only logical explanation I can think of. Because honestly, if you did format, the virus should be gone.

Update the BIOS?

Hmm, windows could be installed on this driver, but it doesn't have much space.

Back up all of the important files, then wipe the HDD and reinstall the OS. It's a pain, but it will get rid of any malware on your machine.

Word of advice: LimeWire is a piece of ****. If you're going to pirate stuff, use something like µTorrent.

I know that but he said he already formatted his computer. He says so in a past post....... There isn't any way the virus can still be on there. As you probably know, formatting is a last resort for when you can't get rid of a virus or if you just want to replace crucial files that are missing from your system. It is sure to work at the expense of losing your data. Trust me,
the virus is gone if he actually did successfully format his computer. He could be saying he formatted when he didn't and that might be throwing off our information a little. The reason why I say that is because formatting is the cure all for computers and he's saying it's not working at.

Viruses can remain in your RAM. He could have reformatted while part of the code remained there and never fully reset it. If you reformat again, open up your comp, remove your sticks of ram from the motherboard and then stick them back in again.

Eh, we used a PS2 keyboard and whatdoyouknow, it worked.
