Wii won't turn off when frozen

Ok, just a few minuets ago my wii froze for what is probably the first time since I bought it (which is actually quite impressive). Anyway, as usual the first thing I did was press the reset button. It didn't work! I pressed it a few more times, and it still wouldn't reset. I tried turning it off several times with both the remote and the actual power button on the console. They didn't work either, even when I held down the button for several seconds. Eventually I just said "**** it" and pulled the cord from the wall, finally getting it to shut off.

Has anyone else noticed this problem with their wii? Its definitely something I can live with (after all this is only the first time its froze in the 3 years I've had it, so I doubt it will happen frequently), but I'd like to know if this is normal or not.

My Wii has only done that when I am running homebrew. Unplugging it is probably the only option.

I usually just hold the powerbutten for about 5 seconds.

That's happened to me once. I just tried the power button, and it didn't work, then decided to screw it and unplugged it.

It only froze when the internet was being a ***** and I was playing Brawl online almost a year ago, though.

You have to hold it down for 7 seconds.

How long is "A few seconds"?

Most power buttons now will shut the hardware down after being held for 5-10 seconds, regardless of whether or not it's locked up.

I can't see the Wii being any different.

Just keep in mind that 10 seconds can feel a very long time.

Well, actually, no there are times when holding down the power button does not work. It froze on me while on Wifi for Call of Duty: World at War, and I held the power button for over a minute and nothing. I tried everything, and was forced to unplug the Wii. Luckily this kind of freeze doesn't happen often and it only happens on Nintendo Wifi (to my understanding).

Actually, this has happened to me several times. The only way to turn it off, then, is to pull the plug.

Still, unplugging the console is just doing what the "hard shutoff" from holding the power button is supposed to do.

Can unplugging it while it is still on damage it in any way?

Never happened to me, but my Wii is only about 8 months old and I don't run homebrew games or anything.

It happens a bit when homebrew hits some kind of memory error. Just unplug it, it doesn't seem to break it.

The hardware? Almost certainly not.

If it freezes in the middle of reading or saving any sort of data, then the data could be corrupted, but that would happen no matter how you powered it off.

Fortunately, I have yet to encounter this problem, even though my Wii is almost three years old.

My wii did never froze. thank god...

It's happened to me a few times when it has frozen in between loading screens. Nothing else to do but pull the plug. It doesn't seem to affect it, and it works normally after that.
