Awesome Firefox Add-ons [Read the First Post]
This thread is here for three main reasons:
1. To create a list of awesome Firefox add-ons for people looking for great to help improve their internet-browsing experience. 2. To allow those of you have found/use awesome Firefox add-ons to share them with the Zelda Universe community to improve their internet-browsing. 3. To show just how awesome Firefox is. But! When posting your favorite add-ons, there are some rules: 1.Add a description of what the add-on does. 2.Provide a link to the add-on. 3.Don’t use words like “me,” or “I” or anything referring to yourself in the description. These can be provided elsewhere in your post, just not the description. The reason being is because of Update #1. (Warning: It is possible that some of the following add-ons are ‘Experimental’ add-ons. Please be cautious when downloading these, as they have not been tested, and could contain a virus or malicious code.) Update #1: I have added a complete list of all the add-ons given in the thread, with a few omissions regarding add-ons that did the same thing. If something is missing, please inform me, and I'll gladly add it in. Update #2: This thread has become a sticky! Yay! All our thanks to nolan! So, here’s the entire list of add-ons given in this thread, complete with descriptions of what the add-on does and a link to its download page: (In Alphabetical Order) Adblock Plus: It blocks ads, how can you go wrong? Anycolor: Lets you change Firefox to a variety of different colors Autopager: Really useful for going through sites with multiple pages. It works with google, youtube, and others. Brief: An awesome RSS reader. You can look through your RSS feeds for updates and read them in a tab in the browser, without logging into a feed-reading site. You can also click a button to update all feeds at once. Incredibly useful. Calvin and Hobbes: Shows the daily Calvin and Hobbes comic strip, as well as previous strips via a calendar. Awesome time killer and laugh generator. Cooliris: It's just eye candy, but once you've experienced image searching with that 3D:wall effect, you won't want to use anything else. Cool Previews: You can view what's on the other side of a link without opening a separate browser window/tab. It opens in its own mini window (which you can minimize to a sidebar if you have more than one to keep track of). Delicious Bookmarks : Great if you use the delicious service...allows you to share your bookmarks between browsers and with other people. DownloadHelper: Lets you download video from a ton of websites, and also can convert them into different formats. Download StatusBar: Gives you the status of your current downloads all in a nice little bar at the bottom of the screen. Hover over an item to show additional stats, and right click once it's done to either open the file directly or open its location. It's awesome! DownThemAll!: A download manager that's pretty useful. The biggest thing for me is that it pauses the download if your connection cuts out (I'm on Wi-Fi, so this happens from time to time), whereas Firefox stops and can't finish the download once that happens:: you have to start again. Drag & Drop.io: If you’re a fan of drop.io, this will come in very handy. As you might expect, you can drag your files to upload right to the icon in your status bar. Extended Statusbar: Gives a more detailed status bar, similar to Opera. Faviconize Tab: Condenses tabs down to just the icon in the tabs bar, via a double-click. Good for saving space, especially if you can recognize the tabs by the icon alone. FEBE:Creates backups of your extension and general Firefox settings. This is probably a good thing to do; I imagine setting all that back up after you've gotten comfortable isn't too fun. Firebug : The absolute best developer addon for Firefox available. Allows you edit the code live on the page and to see that code makes up what elements. Ghostery: Watch what's watching you. It also reports when the website you're visiting has bugs in it. IE Tab: There are certain sites that somehow work better in Internet Explorer than Firefox. This emulates the IE tab engine with the click of a button, so it might fix that when it comes up. (I've finally given up on IE, so this is nice.) Image Zoom: Right click an image and keep the button pressed. OK? Now scroll the mouse wheel. It zooms in and out right there on the page! Middle click to return to normal, left click to halve size. Kutano: Now here's an interesting but currently useless add-on... It allows people to create comments and discussions on web pages, right in their browser (not through the site itself:: so the site owners have no say in it). I know what you're thinking:: if this got enough users, it'd turn into YouTube comments-fest all over the Internet. But really, it's an interesting idea, having people be able to comment and discuss any website with one tool. But it can't be put to much use right now because no one uses it. Lazarus: Form Recovery: Allows me to recover forms from the right click menu. This is handy if the site has a server timeout. Linkification: Converts text links into actual links (i.e. http://www.zeldauniverse.net/forums/...x:add ns.html will appear to be an actual link even with no [URL] tags).Menu Editor: HELL YES I was getting sick and tired of all those superfluous commands that stacked my context menu several stories high, and all my add-ons kept making it worse by adding non-removable commands to it. Well, not anymore. Morning Coffee: Whenever you open Firefox, just click on the Morning Coffee button, and it instantly pops up the sites that you program it to. Useful for people who go to the same site every day (Like ZU. How relevant!). NoScript: Prevents sites from running scripts without your permission, preventing unnecessary and possibly malicious scripts from running. Nuke Everything Enhanced : Gets rid of images, text, ads, etc. by right-clicking and "Remove Object". Organize Status Bar: This kinda goes hand-in-hand with the Menu Editor (see above), since you can adjust all the icons down in your status bar. Very handy. PermaTabs Mod: This is an experimental add-on (in other words, it's not a stable release). It allows you to keep tabs you choose in a permanent spot-- you can move them around, but you are unable to close them by accident or by the "close all tabs" options. You can't close them at all unless you disable them as permatabs. Personas: You can pick from many different, and good, themes for firefox. It also works with the Smart bookmarks Bar! QuickProxy (There were two add-ons named this, so I chose the one with the highest rating): If your school uses a proxy-based security system, now you don't have to go in and out of the proxy menu all the time. Just set it once, then use the QuickProxy button to turn it on and off. Screengrab: Allows you a variety of ways to save screenshots. Smart Bookmarks Bar: Takes away of your bookmarks names in your bookmarks toolbar. So basically, you can add more bookmarks in your bar, because it doesnt take up as much room. Doesnt work with all themes, so i suggest to use... Read it Later: By clicking on one button on the right side of the address bar, you can save the web page you're on to the Read It Later folder in your bookmarks. This is for those single pages you might check out once in the future, but don't have time to figure that out now. You can then uncheck it whenever you want (same button) to get rid of it. It's kind of like keeping easier, extremely temporary bookmarks without crowding your bookmarks. ReloadEvery: Auto-refreshes tabs based on a set interval. Research Word: Select any word on any page, right click, and select any site with a search function. It will be looked up for you in a new tab. It's easy to customize the site list, too. Save Image in Folder : Guess what it does. No seriously, guess. Saves me a lot of time on 4scrape. ScribeFire: Makes it damn easy to upload to blogs (and it works with most blogging sites). I don't really do any of that yet, but I may in the future once I start actually doing something with my drawings. So this could come in handy. Session Manager: Lets you save your current browser session and then reload it later. For example, if you have many tabs open, but don't have time to read them all right now, you can just click "Save Session" and give it a name. Then reload it later. You can even append the session onto the tabs you already have open, so you don't have to close those first either. Great for users of Wiki: or forum-like sites. Examples: Wikipedia, TV Tropes... Show Picture: If some pictures fail to load, this add-on can instantly reload them. Quite different from reloading the entire page, as only images that have not finished loading will be loaded again. Speed Dial: this add-on literally will save you so much time. You can make as many thumbnails as you want, so whenever you want to go to a site that I always visit, just CTRL+T and clicky. Split Browser: You can split the browser window however you want, and look at multiple tabs onscreen at once. StumbleUpon: Lets you find sites related to the current site you’re at that you may find interesting as well. Undo Closed Tabs Button: Self explanatory. WOT: Web of Trust: Useful complement to Firefox's security that warns you of dangerous web pages. You can check how others have rated the pages, and beside links in common search engines, it displays a small icon that alerts you to the status of that page (green = good, yellow = moderate, red = dangerous). Simple and effective. It also stops you if you have gone on a badly-rated page. Zotero: A free, easy-to-use Firefox extension to help you collect, manage, and cite your research sources. Combination: For those of you who want more screen real estate: LittleFox/Tiny Menu/Tree Style Tabs Creates: ![]() Enjoy enjoying the internet ![]()

Adblock Plus: First addon I used, and one of the best. It blocks ads, how can you go wrong?
Anycolor: Lets me change Firefox to a variety of different colours, my choice being a nice crimson. DownloadHelper: Lets you download video from a ****-ton of websites, and also can convert them into different formats. Extended Statusbar: Gives a more detailed status bar, similar to Opera. Lazarus: Form Recovery: Allows me to recover forms from the right-click menu. This is handy if the site has a server timeout. Linkification: Converts text links into actual links (IE http://www.zeldauniverse.net/forums/...x-add-ons.html will appear to be an actual link even with no [URL] tags). Re: Awesome Firefox Add-ons [Read the First Post]
Silver listed a few I use, but here are some more of mine:
--Brief A ****ing awesome RSS reader. You can look through your RSS feeds for updates and read them in a tab in the browser, without logging into a feed-reading site. You can also click a button to update all feeds at once. Incredibly useful. --Read it Later By clicking on one button on the right side of the address bar, you can save the web page you're on to the Read it Later folder in your bookmarks. This is for those single pages you might check out once in the future, but don't have time to figure that out now. You can then uncheck it whenever you want (same button) to get rid of it. It's kind of like keeping easier, extremely temporary bookmarks without crowding your bookmarks. --Cool Previews You can view what's on the other side of a link without opening a seperate browser window/tab. It opens in its own mini window (which you can minimize to a sidebar if you have more than one to keep track of). Seems kinda unnecessary, I know, and I haven't really used it all that much yet, but it seems pretty cool, so I'll leave it there a little longer. --DownThemAll! A download manager that's pretty useful. The biggest thing for me is that it pauses the download if your connection cuts out (I'm on Wi-Fi, so this happens from time to time), whereas Firefox stops and can't finish the download once that happens-- you have to start again. --IE Tab There are certain sites that somehow work better in Internet Explorer than Firefox. This emulates the IE tab engine with the click of a button, so it might fix that when it comes up. (I've finally given up on IE, so this is nice.)

Easy YouTube Video Downloader: Exactly what it says on the tin. Adds a few small links to the bottom YouTube descriptions, reading "FLV", "MP4", etc. Just click on one to start downloading to a pre-set folder. Most of my other addons have already been listed...
Delicious Bookmarks - Great if you use the delicious service...allows you to share your bookmarks between browsers and with other people. Firebug - The absolute best developer addon for Firefox available. Allows you edit the code live on the page and to see that code makes up what elements. GooglePreview - Adds thumbnails of websites into Google Search results. Also tells you if it's a reported attack site. |

Re: Awesome Firefox Add-ons [Read the First Post]
Oh, here we go. How about some combos?
My awesome screen real-estate combo: LittleFox Tiny Menu Tree Style Tabs Seriously, try that out. You get something along the lines of this: ![]() It has better screen real-estate than CHROME, which is pretty insane, since screen real-estate and speed are the only reasons I ever used Chrome. (Firefox 3.5 is nearly as fast as Chrome, too, so that takes care of that.)

Re: Awesome Firefox Add-ons [Read the First Post]
^ Seriously, it's an add-on with huge, huge potential.
Word needs to get out about it, so it can be put to use. Just think of how useful it could be, stating what you think about a site without having to sign up on the site itself? It could even be used for something like ZU, posting various opinions or ideas about the site without spamming up the forums or wading through the fast-paced chat. EDIT: Well, except people with Macs for the time being.

Aye!
That would be useful. There are all sorts of goodies here. If a mod was willing, maybe after a while all of the recommended add-ons throughout the thread could be added to the first post, in one big list (with links, of course). Also, TRY KUTANO, PEOPLE
