Long PM's and graphics card drivers

Whenever I view a long PM on my laptop, the graphics drivers seem to crash and I'm forced into 640x480 and 4-bit/16-color mode. =/
I have no idea why this happens.

Re: Long PM's and graphics card drivers

A few questions (I can't help too much, but I know what the people who can will ask).
Is it an apple os? If so which one?
Make and model of your graphics card and drivers?
Is it only on ZU or is it on other sites?
Does what skin you have affect it?
Do you have any other programs open? If so shut them off and try it again.

If none of this helps I suggest googling your OS and that graphics card and see if it pops up. A lot of times the question has been asked on another forum. This late at night it will be hard to get a quick answer to your question here.

Re: Long PM's and graphics card drivers

I have a laptop running Windows XP and it has an Intel GMA X3100.
It's happened twice so far - both while viewing quite long PM's, only on ZU.
Plus, it's morning here. Good morning! ;D

Re: Long PM's and graphics card drivers

Silly Americans and their wrong sense of time, it is morning!

Does it happens with each skin or just the temple one?
Have you tried updating your drivers?
Does it happen with the same person?
It's just weird cause PM's seem less heavy than say 50 posts.

Re: Long PM's and graphics card drivers

A problem like that wouldn't be something directly caused by ZU. I'd say there's something wrong with your graphics driver/card and/or your OS. Run some windows update, some virus scan, and possibly find new drivers.

Yeah, I just never seem to get it with other sites, and I get it with a site that's known to have problems in the past (remember temple 2 huge loading times, anyone?)

New, never troubled before, passes all 3d tests.

Than the official ones?

But yeah, I'll try another skin.

With Windows? A virus scan is always appropriate.

yeah. I suggest Avast but that's just me.

And I'd rather live in another country with my sense of time I'm just stuck here. And going to bed when the sun comes up gets old fast.

I. Have. No. Viruses.

Anyway, the problem just occurred while viewing last.fm - I suppose this is not a Zelda Universe issue anymore. GREAT, my main computer won't boot due to me having a netgear card, and my laptop has 16 colors 640x480 half the time. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

What browser are you using?

Also, update your video drivers.

As long as it's not a ZU problem then, I see no need for this thread to stay here.

Moved to technology!

Do you get similar display issues when doing anything else? I find it hard to believe that it's a web site that's causing your problems, especially the more vertical ZU pages.

I got these drivers mere weeks ago and they started messing up 4 days ago - has happened three times so far.

But yeah, I'll lay this on ice until it happens again.

Also, I'm depressed because my network card (piece of ****) on my stationary crashed - so now I got a weird laptop and a 35 pound box with the only purpose of listening to music! \o/

Alright, try going to an older set of drivers, then.

Re: Long PM's and graphics card drivers

If you're getting display corruption it could be bad drivers, but it could also be the laptop overheating, or even some permanent damage. Best check with your manufacturer's customer support.

Well, it's weird - happened this morning when I had it on for 20 minutes - and now I've had it on for 6-7 hours in a row doing stuff like watching movies in 720p, had a million firefox tabs up, having ten million MSN convos up...
I might just wipe this computer clean - it boots weirdly anyway ever since i installed the fingerprint drivers (sits in the welcome screen for 5 minutes)

It's been running constantly for about 7 hours now? Reboot it and go into the BIOS and see what the internal temperatures are.

I mean, I've had it on for 6-7 hours and I don't have the problem.

Re: Long PM's and graphics card drivers

Indeed, but I'm wondering just how warm it gets after 6-7 hours of use.
