Computer clock/date keeps changing...

Hey people who know infinitely more about computers than I do!

So, I have a PC and the clock in the corner keeps changing itself. doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason. the minutes are right but at any given time I can look at it and it may be right, or 2-4 hours behind.
Then I look and the year is some random weird year in the future!

I doubt it's a virus or anything because I have Norton and I just did a scan.

anyone have a clue as to what this could be?

My old computer had the same problem. It's probably the C-mos battery. It's a tiny, silver circle thing on the motherboard of the computer. It's about the size of a quarter. Of course, I'm not very techy, so you may want a second... or third... opinion on this.

I took a closer look and realized it was set on Pacific time!!
It must have kept changing every time windows synchronized with the internet time.

I think the problem is solved but I'll find out eventually, lol.
That still doesn't explain the random year changes though...

well of course as I said, that doesn't really explain the random changes to 2048 and stuff. srsly, it has changed itself to all sorts of random future years.

If you have Norton, it could very well be a virus you have on your computer.
But yeah, sounds like CMOS problem.
