Farmboy's Web School
![]() I've decided to start this school to show people how to use dynamic languages to build websites (since the app thing failed and I'm out of school, and I have nothing to do). It is free, and the program that you will be using is free and professional. I will give links to the videos of me giving tutorials of the lessons and going over basics. You can sign up by posting below. Please, you may comment, but if their are too many, I'll ask mods to start deleting posts. The software I mention (the compiler) is called Visual Web Developer 2008. I will be using the full liscense version that costs around $700, but don't fret, you'll have all the features that I have, but I have a slightly larger toolbox because I use Telerik tools (won't be demostrated). Below is the link for Visual Web Developer. On the right column is a box with the button, download now. Please use that one, and not the one below talking about the web platform install. Save it to your desktop and run it when you get done. http://www.microsoft.com/express/vwd/ You can also follow me at http://thefarmboysschool.webs.com/ for assignments and to watch the tutorials. |

Re: Farmboy's Web School
From what I've used of it, VWD is a nice program, with lots of features. I'm wondering though, do you use it in WYSIWYG mode or actually code it yourself. I'm more of a hand-coder myself, but either way I'm somewhat curious as to what you plan on teaching (-:

Re: Farmboy's Web School
To be honest, I use split screen so that my sites look good, while fuction really well. I do hard code my sites with Visual Basic since it's easy to use and easy for me to work with. I'm going to go through the book I learned to teach code behind so that say, I do a button submit lesson, the button won't work without code behind, it'll just look pretty. Feel free to browse throught the lesson videos when they posted. I do have to have at least 5 students enrolled before I can start.

Re: Farmboy's Web School
If you're doing web design tutorials you may want to ditch the tiled background on your blog, or at least get a background which tiles better, as I would imagine, seeing something like that wouldn't really make people want to take web design lessons from you.
Anyway, I'm not going to sign up for lessons or whatever, but I might watch some of your videos once you have them up.

Re: Farmboy's Web School
Um...I need students, really badly or I'm going to abandon the project. It'll close 6/20 or it will start to interfere (can't spell, leave me alone) with my Robotics project. I have to reinstall VS 2008 real quick (got a bigger hd, now gots 500GB, but had to downgrade to XP so it will dedicate more memory to VS), so if the intro video attracts no one, then it'll stop 6/20.

Re: Farmboy's Web School
Ok, so I deleted a bunch of posts.
Pretty much this thread is for people who want to learn from the guy who started the thread. Whatever skill level or whatever he is at, that only really matters to the people who are interested in seeing if they want to learn from him. If you look at his site or whatever and see that you aren't interested, then you don't need to sign up or anything. Don't need to add in your own critiques or anything. Cool? Cool. |

Re: Farmboy's Web School
Question: If you're fluent in all of these languages, wouldn't it seem right to build your site from scratch and not just edit a previously designed template on webs.com?
I would be interested, if you could actually prove to me that you're not just gonna enlighten me in the skills of webs template modifying, because I can do that myself. |

Re: Farmboy's Web School
Everyone, you have to wait about another 5 days. It turns out that my microphone doesn't work, and I'm supposed to go to my grandparents up in Illinios (it's about 9 hours from where I live) for 4 days, so I'm going to have to search for wifi spots all over town.
