What operating system do you use on your computer?

I use Windows XP. It's a great operating system in my opinion, as it can run most software and games, and I haven't really had any problems with it, aside from one time where I had to reinstall the OS, though that was more a result of my own stupidity.

I don't see a reason to get Vista, and I probably never will. However, Windows 7 looks promising, and I'll likely get it when I eventually get a new computer.

What about the rest of you?

Windows Vista Ultimate.

That depends on if you're using the 32 or 64 bit version of Vista, not if it's "Home basic" or "Ultimate"


I have Vista Home Premium 32-bit and Ubuntu 9.04 32-bit.

Man I hate windows. SO MUCH. Then again there is nothing wrong with it its just that I'm bored with it. In two years I will get a Mac for my laptop for college. Too get off the Microsoft train. And I have Ubuntu on this computer dual booting but since my sound card isn't compatible I don't use it.

Right now I'm using Windows XP. I'm going to switch to Vista soon because my computer's becoming an old fart, and all the new Microsoft computers only have Vista installed on them.

Sign that you need a new computer: When a tiny midgett laptop has double the memory than your huge desktop.

I'm using Windows 7. Such a step up from Vista.

-Damn Small Linux (jump drive OS)
-Knoppmyth Linux (Media Center)
-CentOS Linux (general purpose file server. Mostly used for music and movies)
-Windows XP (old machine/tinker box)
-Windows 2000 (really old machine/tinker box 2)
-Windows 3.1 (nostalgia laptop)

I think that's everything I have running on standard/laptop hardware.

I wanna throw Windows 7 on tinker box 1, but I'm afraid the machine is just too old to handle the footprint. XP is already incredibly sluggish.

Oh, I left it out on purpose, so that I could get another post.

It's the 64-bit version. There is one downside though and that's the fact that I can no longer hook up my cable modem to my computer with the USB cord, since there are no drivers from Motorola that would support this when using a 64-bit OS.

I'm running 7, myself. Its great, it takes everything good that Microsoft leaned from Vista, and fixes most of the issues.

"Old" laptop: Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope (It has an "amazing" fifteen minutes of battery time, I use this when I need to toy around or when I do a presentation)
I'd run osx86 on the new laptop but the only thing that it doesn't have unofficial drivers is the wireless net, which I really, really need, I'm afraid. I just might buy an external USB wireless adapter just to get it on there.

Didn't we have this topic like yesterday? Any way it's still XP and will be for a while. Since Windows 7 will have DirectX 11 and all that I'll skip this generation of computer hardware completely.

Vista. It came on my laptop, and I'm a lazy ****er, so I've not switched to XP yet.

Vista for me.

It's not exactly my ideal OS, but it came with my laptop I don't really think I can switch back to XP at this point in time.

I use Windows Vista

I use Vista Home Basic 32-Bit; my mom uses, at least I think she uses Home Premium 32-Bit; and my grandma uses a Home Premium 64-Bit.

I've seen/heard things about Windows 7, but I'm not taking a risk in switching to it or XP. Besides, my mom would annihilate me if she figured out I was doing something that risky. And that I I have no clue where my recovery disks are (did it even come with them?).

I use linux

I have a MacBook and I run OS X on that.

At my home (which means Los Angeles, not where I go to for college), we run Linux (Ubuntu).

In a perfect world, I'd have a Desktop PC triple-booting Linux, XP, (or Seven if it's actually any good) and Mac OS X, and a MacBook running OS X.

I have Vista but plan to use 7 later.

Vista. And it sucks
