Mac uses literally pieces of **** software and sells it for the price of the aesthetics.
Considering a HDD shouldn't be shot after a month (of normal use, ovcourse).

^ Speaking of mac hard drives, my sister has a Macbook, and the hard drive has been buggered about three times now.

I've been using my Dell laptop for over a year and a half, and I have yet to encounter any hardware problems with it (Well, my power supply stopped working once, but I was under warranty, so they sent me a new one which arrived next day. Dunno why people say they have bad service).

All on medium/high is something even the 9400M should be able to handle.

I'd ask you to explain buggering, but I'm going to tell you how to improve, fix, or just find your problem.



Open Disk Utility (lol, I typed out dick first).

Assuming she doesn't have her disk partitioned to Mac OSX and Windows (or another OS), select the S3487394783894729 (whatever it is) Q Media. See 1.

If she does, click Macintosh HD. See 2.

3 is just another partition. Don't do anything with it.

Click Repair Permissions (this verifies it, and repairs it in one step). See 4.

*Don't panic if you see a lot of stuff filling up the screen, its just correcting itself.
**Unless any big issues arrive, it should be fine, just let it sit there, try not to use the machine while its doing it. (And close ALL applications, its just more efficient to find its own errors).

Next, when its all done you're going to click verify disk. See 5.

***As well as repairing permissions, just let it sit there, because if you're trying to use it while its doing this, the whole HD is busy, and it won't work too well.

What I meant by "buggered" is "****ed". As in, her HD was beyond any hope.

That seems like useful information, though. I'll pass it on to my mum and sister, who are both Mac users.

Eh, this tutorial won't work at all when the Mac fries the hard drive.

Most people know the hard drives Apple use are ****e - even if it has gotten better lately. However, part of it isn't Apple to blame, definitely not; Seagate really does make awful discs (I can both speak from experience, from personal anecdotes from friends, and statistics).

Agreeing with you completely, otherwise.

I mean it's a common problem, like one of the chipsets in the MBP sometimes caused green lines and something that looked like gaussing on the display, or HP's laptop battery problems. No amount of disc management / graphics management / battery management can solve those.
