Hmm. I might. I'm gonna have to look it up and see what information I can find on it and make my decision if I should wait for it or not. :] Thanks for the suggestion.

Ah, okay. I went back and read what you had edited in.

Thanks for the more-in depth suggestion. :]

Halfway in second installation, if it fails again I know what's wrong (I just need to change bootloader to that sexy one that starts on x)

edit: O_o IT BOOTED, time to see if it works or not!
edit2: still waiting for root device error, at least that's piss easy to solve.
edit3: ugh, we'll see if it works now, apparently I have a Fujitsu Siemens motherboard which might not have drivers. It's hit and miss now!
edit4: oh, it turns out the problem is very easy to solve, I just need to flick a switch inside the computer... but I'm too lazy. Some other day.

It's a ****ty prebuilt Fujitsu Siemens. I plan to throw it out in favor for a custom built i5 system once it's on the market - hopefully leopard (or iKaros which is Snow Leopard) can handle that processor.

Well, I gotta swap places on two cables (I installed Leopard on the slave hard drive but it's a dominant animal so I gotta put it in Master) but I'm too lazy to, so I'll wait until I build the new computer instead.

Re: What operating system do you use?

I'd have to switch back for XP since I didn't get a proper dual boot going.

Re: What operating system do you use?

I'm a fan of Windows, Mac and Linux. I use windows because of the programs, and not too terribly annoyed at it since I know how to dodge most of the problems it gives me. I'm still learning Mac since I'm going after a Computer Graphics degree, and I have a Linux desktop system that I use as a backup system just in case my Windows system decides to go haywire on me.

I don't understand this sentence at all. What makes "Computer Graphics" on Mac better, except that Windows has better application support for example 3D programs to be used in CG work and has better hardware capabilities for that since 8 GB of RAM doesn't cost 1425$?
Just wondering, no arrogance intended.

I'm going to agree, since the graphics card inside the most current version of a mac hasn't been compatible with a lot, or upgraded at all.

Though when I do run windows on this machine, the graphics tend to look a tad better with the correct settings.

Placebo. Compared to what, exactly?

Re: What operating system do you use?

right now i'm using Mac OS Leopard or something, and i seriously HATE it.
i'm a little windows fangirl really - i'm using a mac right now 'cause my pc's seriously buggered.
but if i get teh 'finances' sorted i should have a new laptop by the end of the month, running XP of course;
not taken to Vista during my brief encounters with it.
linux seems like an exotic delight that i feel i should familiar myself with.

Say, a standard Dell PC combo.
Hell, my boyfriend's computer, and I don't know what that is, though I believe its home-built.

Then it's either a) mac placebo or b) you comparing a newer graphics card versus an older one, because games don't look 'better' on the same settings unless you compare something like Shader 2.0 cards to Shader 4.0 ones (such as my X850XT to a HD4870, both playing something like Far Cry 2 or TF2 on low...)

Either case, a Mac is an (overpriced) PC, period. And when I say overpriced, I don't mean 'expensive components', but 'high price on basic components'.

Uh, the 'mac startup sound' is fired by the EFI in the same way that the system beep is fired by the bios. There is no OS startup sound. We just have a much nicer system beep

I have no system beep. I have a startup sound that I can change easily.
Plus, interestingly enough you can mute that system beep by turning off the sound on a Mac. Weird thinking by Apple to make it unchangeable.
