OSX is filled with so many things that aggravate me, such as...the fact that it's a mess when working with multiple programs (I do not appreciate having multiple windows spread all over my workspace, especially when each toolbar is its own free-floating window. It drives me INSANE), and other such things. I'd much prefer to use Windows for just about anything.
Believe it or not, this is actually a non-issue in OS X. Not only can you minimize apps like in Windows, you can also just hide them altogether with one quick keystroke. Plus, you can also activate Spaces if you like to organize your windows further. Then there's Exposé, which allows you to see all your open windows and arrange them however you like within said spaces.

It's true that OS X handles windows differently than Windows, but that's what these features are for.

I wasn't complaining about minimizing windows, I was complaining about how you can't maximize them (unless you do it yourself by dragging them which is completely needless), and when you're in applications, the windows themselves inside the applications are a mess.

The toolbars are all free-floating, which drives me up a wall, and the applications usually don't have any sort of background, so if you don't maximize the project window you're working on (which is usually impossible even manually), you see gaps that reveal your desktop or other windows below it, which makes the whole thing feel cluttered. I hate it.

I can't stand the way OSX handles windows. It drives me insane, because the whole thing feels like a mess strewn about the screen. I like having whatever window I'm working on maximized as well, so really, I just hate using OSX.

But you have no way to access them via the GUI?

Why not, you know, minimize them?

Because you can re-open windows the same way whether you hide or minimize them?

For the record, I don't use the hide command as a replacement for minimizing. I realize the two have different purposes, that's my whole point. I only hide applications when I have several windows open that I'm not using because it's much quicker than clicking the minimize button on each individual window.

Mac OS X. My dad won't get a Windows. And I think Macs are better.

Oh damn, that's another one I hate.
Why don't programs close when you close them?
If I close an open program, I don't want it to hang open anyway. What is the use of that?

Re: What operating system do you use?

that's great fratey.

IMO double clicking the top of a window should maximize/unmaximize a window, - should shade, cmd-clicking - should minimize and x should close. X= DEATH... come on...

Now your just kinda *****ing man. You said it yourself, OS X handles windows differently and this is how its been since the olden days. And anyway, apple key + q terminates the application and windows are closed as well, so it really isn't that big of a deal.

I like shutting down applications with one mouse click instead of cmd+click+click again...

Great. Get back to me when that kind of functionality comes standard in Windows~

I don't know about him, but I've found that I can work far more efficiently on a Mac than on any Windows PC I've ever used, and that goes beyond the functionality of the OS--it's also got a lot to do with how neat and tidy iMacs are. Got mine sitting on a tiny little writing desk, and I've got everything I need within easy reach--my sketchbooks, some art supplies, my tablet, and even a few remotes. And I still have room to spare.

Most importantly though, I simply enjoy using it so much more than any computer I've owned previously.

What? It minimizes all windows just fine, takes them up just as I want them.

Keyboard, mouse, and still almost ~11 square feet left.
In fact, I just might buy an Apple keyboard - that's their only non-overpriced product. ;D

Yeah, I feel just the same about my PC I just got working today, with an Antec P180 Mini case (micro-atx, it's quite small) with an Core i5 processor (runs on lower voltage than the processor in the Mac Pro - but yeah, performs at least as well), 4gb of DDR3 RAM at 1600mhz, ridiculously good cooling despite being stock (I've had it done advanced 3D stuff for 3 hours now and it still sprays out air that's colder than the surroundings), and a beautiful, beautiful noise level that I have to turn off the music and concentrate really hard to hear - and that's due to the 3.5 year old graphics card that I'm throwing away next week in replacement for the HD5850 (Macs don't even come close to the performance of that card, even if you'd spend $12000 on a top-of-the-line Mac Pro) - and the best part; this PC is budget!
The monitor, although could be looking nicer (I bought it just as 24" monitors became mainstream), eats less power than any Apple monitor on the market (like, when I says less, I mean 1/4 to 1/10 of the power usage), has just as wide of a color gamut, doesn't dither (unlike some Mac monitors), and only has two wires, which I can disguise perfectly.

I call it close to perfection. Lower power usage, much higher performance, just as silent, plenty faster, and brilliant looks.

Without fruits.

edit: 2 hours of 3D and the CPU is 25c?! I love this!

Re: What operating system do you use?

Sorry to cut you two off!
I did buy Snow Leopard Server (and boy am I excited),
But things critical to me like Microsoft Office and my printer drivers haven't been updated, along with the way my server connects and runs.
And so I wait for updates before I trash my system.
Augh. Agony.
