Thought so.

Just put a fidgety RAM stick (which is probably the problem) into a Mac Pro/iMac/Macbook Pro/Macbook and you have the same problem as I do.
Else, I also get kernel panics in OS X... cool stuff.

But I find it interesting - why do people still attempt to verse homebuilt vs prebuilt computers when it comes to them crashing during the assembly process? Are they really that desperate to trying to get points?

Shame on you fratey. You should know better than to pick on the Mac nerds.

Speaking of which, I've pretty much fallen in love with OS X.

Re: What operating system do you use?

back to the topic... I use linux windows and want to use haiku as soon as i get it running.

Lets be specific:

Linux: Ubuntu 9.04 don' use it that much since I don't have sound
Linux: Jolicloud first alpha relase(something like that) Great love it, its fast but, it needs to make its userface different than Ubuntu NR

Windows: Vista..... what else is there to say I hate it so much...
Windows 7: way better than vista some apps that should go to the system tray don't they stay on the taskbar. Slow but, then again im running it on an Acer Aspire one AOA 150.

Then there is haiku well I haven't used it yet but, from what I hear its really fast 10 second boot stuff like that look at it herehttp://www.haiku-os.org/ base off BeOS is that how you type it?

You can still get new computers with XP on them. You just have to work at it. I'd suggest getting windows 7 myself. I'll be putting it on my next build.

Sign you need a new laptop. When your hard drive is half filled with the OS. (I have a 2 gbs of free space on that thing. And it's running XP. But it takes notes!).

I have always been using Windows XP until recently.
Now I'm using Windows Vista. Not all that bad as I thought it was.

Heh. That's pretty funny actually. What is it an old iMac? The might mouse does bite the big one, but no where near as bad as this piece of ****.

Haiku is in Alpha 1 stage. I'm not touching it until at least its out of beta. Fedora and Linux Mint give me all I need.

eMac

and apparently, those who study web design couldn't do that on eMacs from 2005 that cost 1500$ here, but I could design just fine on my PC for 500$ that I bought 2005.
So what did they do? Of course, bought Mac Pros for 3200$ each and then Apple Cinema Display monitors for ~1100$ each. For each Mac Pro they buy. 1 Mac Pro = 1 PC Internet Café.

I still don't get why people say Macs are better for art when I apparently can design better than them for a sixth of the cost. ;/

final cut pro...

also adobe traditionally worked very closely with apple for their product releases... of course that's currently NOT applicable as the best version of CS is now on windows, but...

I don't consider videos art (with notable exceptions being art videos, avant-garde, and so, which is very little); besides there's plenty of replacements to FCP.

And now Adobe Audition isn't even available for Mac. *giggles*
It's weird how the market moves.

And again, I still wonder why they supposedly are better for art. Especially considering FCP costs like a million. ;D

Re: What operating system do you use?

I couldn't really tell you, I've mostly just used photoshop. Used it on a friend's mac before, but, while I was better with it than he due to experiences on windows, I wasn't all that adept compared to when I was using it under windows. Yes most of the keyboard shortcuts matched but I just wasn't familiar with it(I've used OSX for all of 5 hours in the last few years, and windows for.... A LOT) Still better with OSX than your average person, but that's not saying much.

One of my biggest complaints about OSX.
We were going to watch part of a film in one class, and when the instructor asked someone how to fullscreen it, someone clicked on the "maximize" button, and the window enlarged to cover about 40% of the screen.
At that point I actually just kinda blurted out "this is why I hate Macs" without thinking, and the person next to me went "ditto".

Mac OS is such a goddamn mess to work with. It has more windows than Windows, for chrissakes.

I don't hate Macs, I think I could work fine if I had a Mac with the same performance as the PC I just built (sadly that would be a Mac Pro for ~4000$), but I don't like how much I need to pay for an aluminum case.

Well, I try to work with what I have without complaining, but Reason covers LESS THAN HALF of the 1024x768 eMac monitor, and I gotta click the precise pixel a music bar is on to quantize it - try to do that on a Mighty Mouse, I dare you!

There's that too.

It used to be a case of how used to the OS I was (which was not very), but even though I can now work my way around it, I still can't stand it.
OSX is filled with so many things that aggravate me, such as the inability to maximize windows properly (and the "maximize button" that is apparently just there for kicks), the fact that it's a mess when working with multiple programs (I do not appreciate having multiple windows spread all over my workspace, especially when each toolbar is its own free-floating window. It drives me INSANE), and other such things. I'd much prefer to use Windows for just about anything.
