I am not really really smart with computers at all and I need some good help. I am trying to get some files from my old floppy things on to my old Hyper Book notebook.
It has Windows 95 133 Mhz processor 16 MB of ram 3 GB hard drive and a 3/5 inch floppy drive. It has a CD ROM drive to So I put a floppy disk in the computer and then I go to computer and click the floppy icon and I get this on my screen and I have to turn off my notebook because it will not do anything. ![]() |

Wow... That's ancient. I suppose just getting a new computer is out of the question?
![]() I'm sure it's possible to fix (I'm no computer guy, so it may be fatal to your computer), but... DANG that thing is ancient! I can't imagine using a computer that takes floppies. ![]()

Re: Help with my Hyper Book Please!
I actually have a new notebook ^^ It is really nice but it has no floppy drives.
It has Mac OS X 10.5.6 2.53 Ghz 2 core processor 4 GB ram 250 GB hard drive And it has 2 video cards. One is 256 MB and the other is 512 MB I think. But it only takes usb and CD and not floppies so I cant really get to my old files.. ^^;; |

Re: Help with my Hyper Book Please!
Your harddrive will be wiped clean. So all your files will be gone.
You could try something else: Right click My Computer => Properties => Than the tab Hardware => Device manager => Find your floppy disk => Right click => Undo Installation/Delete => Reboot => Now it should reinstall it automatically. It could ask for drivers in that case just insert your windows cd.

Re: Help with my Hyper Book Please!
Er, no, re-installing an OS doesn't wipe the HDD unless you tell it to re-format when installing. (Trust me on this, I've had to install Ubuntu and XP more times than I'd care to recall.)
However, Nictel's way is probably just as good, and rather faster.

Re: Help with my Hyper Book Please!
Thank you ^^ I am going to bed now but I will try it in the morning. My parents said they might buy me this so I can use floppy disks with my Macintosh and other computers in the house that do not have floppy drives built in.

An external floppydrive is a great idea, though I find the price of the Sony a bit steep, then again there probably a bit more expensive since not a lot of people buy them.

Re: Help with my Hyper Book Please!
...Well, that's stupid.
Alright then, use Nictel's suggestion. If it doesn't work and you don't care about losing what's on the HDD (or can back it up first) then try re-installing it, I s'pose.

Re: Help with my Hyper Book Please!
It got blue screen of death again when I right clicked the thingy to uninstall the drives for the floppy. I do not really care about anything on my hard drive. All the stuff I care about is on my floppy disks.
Can someone that knows good sites or something to buy portable floppy drives maybe search for some for me? Maybe my parents can do it later though. Do you think they sell them at staples? ^^ |
