No thanks. I'll wait till the DS2 comes out, or until my DS Lite breaks.

I disagree, the dsi is the third upgrade and it came out right after the psp 3000, which was the third and last uprgrade to the psp. So, after the psp2 comes out then the DS2 will emerge. The dsi will probably be replaced within the next two years depending on the sucess and release date of the psp2.

Well judging from Nintindos previous history with handhelds. I say we have 3-4 years until the DS2. So I think Mr. Wonderful is right in his assessment.

That would be pathetic by the time the DS2 comes out.

Huh, the ds was released in 2004 and has already been upgraded twice since. There is no way to dsi will remain for another four years without an upgrade. The ds lite was released two years after the first, so if you look at nintendo's recent past they upgrade their handhelds about every two years.

Re: Nintendo DSi

Whenever a console comes out, a handheld it released ten years later with just as good graphics.

GameCube and PS2 were released in late 2001/early 2002, so we'll prolly see a "DS2" in the next two or three years.

The DSi is more then a slight cosmetic upgrade though like the other two though. Read Mr. Wonderful's posts. The CPU and RAM are both much higher then they are on the regular DS's, there is no reason for them to come out with a DS2 for awhile now.

~blink~ which previous history are you looking at?

looking at GBA runs VS DS runs specifically (information pulled from release dates on Wikipedia):

The GBA overall (SP included) ran 2001-2004 for a total of 3 years before it was overshadowed by the DS...though the micro came out in 2005, making it 4 or 5 years...
The DS has run from 2004-2009+ for 5+ years.

The original Advance version ran 2001-2003 for 2 years.
the SP version ran 2003-2004 for 1 year before the DS came out.
the micro was released in 05, and didn't do so well, being released after the DS.

the original DS version ran 2004-2006 for 2 years before it was replaced by the Lite
Lite ran 2006-2009 for 3 years.
DSi 2009+

when you look at the numbers...previous history says they're overdue for a new handheld system altogether. hopefully they've learned their lesson from pissing off the fans with the DS release so soon after the SP release / the poor sales from the Micro overall. but I don't see the DSi lasting that long or getting upgrades, being the second upgrade of a system that's already had a such a long run. I'd bet they're going to replace the DSi with a completely new handheld system in about 2 years.

Re: Nintendo DSi

NES released in 1983
GB released in 1989

SNES released in 1990
GBA released in 2001

N64 released in 1996
DS released in 2004

The average time between the releases of the hand held in comparison to the console it equals is about 8 or 9 years. The PS2 was released in 2000, so it is coming pretty close for a handheld version of it.

Patterns, PATTERNS!!! They're everywhere I tell you. The Maturity Zelda games pattern, the "handheld graphics to last console" pattern.

Make soo much sense!

I know the PSP can't handle PS2 games, but games like Dissidia look really close to the way they do. If the PSP2 rumor is true, then that is the system that will give us those graphics.

I would say that the best looking PSP games look better than most PS2 games, and some of the mid-generation to late-generation games as well. If either Nintendo or Sony actually did a hardware upgrade as much as they could for ~$200, I would expect a Wii/Xbox level handheld. Heck, look at the (soon to be given another significant hardware revision) iPhone. Some of its specs are in line with or above last generation console specs.
