~blink~ which previous history are you looking at?
looking at GBA runs VS DS runs specifically (information pulled from release dates on Wikipedia):
The GBA overall (SP included) ran 2001-2004 for a total of 3 years before it was overshadowed by the DS...though the micro came out in 2005, making it 4 or 5 years...
The DS has run from 2004-2009+ for 5+ years.
The original Advance version ran 2001-2003 for 2 years.
the SP version ran 2003-2004 for 1 year before the DS came out.
the micro was released in 05, and didn't do so well, being released after the DS.
the original DS version ran 2004-2006 for 2 years before it was replaced by the Lite
Lite ran 2006-2009 for 3 years.
DSi 2009+
when you look at the numbers...previous history says they're overdue for a new handheld system altogether. hopefully they've learned their lesson from pissing off the fans with the DS release so soon after the SP release / the poor sales from the Micro overall. but I don't see the DSi lasting that long or getting upgrades, being the second upgrade of a system that's already had a such a long run. I'd bet they're going to replace the DSi with a completely new handheld system in about 2 years.
