In the market for new mother board
So a co-worker of mine is looking for a new mother board.
He was looking for a socket 775, but wants some reviews on what they're like. Any advice?

Re: In the market for new mother board
Socket 775 was last gen Intel processors, so you're looking at Intel Core 2 Duo/Quad processors.
It really depends on your budget and what chipset and features you want. You can't go wrong with an Asus P5Q Pro or a GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P or perhaps a DFI LP UT P35 T2R for example. Check reviews online from sites like Bit-tech.net or Anandtech.com, as they'll give detailed insights into what is what on each mobo.

Re: In the market for new mother board
It depends a lot on what this person wants their computer to do. Does this person want a mid to high end graphics card? Then they'll need a 16x PCI Express port. Do they want multiple thread processing to handle multiple applications at once? Then they're going to want one that comes with a Quad Core processor CPU socket. Multimedia machine? Then they're probably going to want a few extra PCI slots.
It's all about efficiency on what you want your computer to do. No need to go over the top of what meets your needs. Needless to say, he/she also has to check the compatibility of the motherboard to see if it matches his current parts. For example: If they have an IDE hard drive; you might not find an IDE controller on today's motherboards. Making their hard drive incompatible with their new motherboard.
