Wii system update: Firmware killed my Wii

Not having my Wii online means I rely on system updates/firmware that comes packaged with certain games. The latest update I've had came packaged with mario kart Wii, however, since my Wii firmware was updated I've had nothing but problems. It gets so far through a game and then simply crashes, displaying an error message.

I can't see this being any other problem except for the update as it only started happening since I got MKWii. Does anyone else have this problem and can you give me some advice? ^_^

That's... weird.

If you have an SD card you could back up all of your data and format the Wii's memory.

Two options here, rant a rave to Nintendo explaining what happened and demand a new console replacement (You might not get anywhere here) or wait until either yourself or someone else gets a newer game then update your system again.

Maybe you could smash the console to bits and throw it out your livingroom window in rage, perhaps not!

Yea. Well, I'm getting Wii fit as soon as it's back in stock. I'd imagine that comes with an update. ^_^

Awesome, thanks. I guess I can wait a week or so with this problem. If, once the Wii fit update is installed the problem is still there, then at least I'll know it's not firmware based and more likely a hardware problem. Then I'll at least know what I'm tackling here. Thanks again for the update info. ^_^

Is your Wii modded? Because if it is, I guarantee thats the problem. If its not, then talk to Nintendo.

Not modded, no. I love Nintendo too much to destroy my Wii with the most dodgeyest mod chips on the market. *wallows in fanboy-ism* xP

No. The only problem that could generate would be if he was using a different region's mario kart. If you update with a game from a different region, you'll brick (or semi-brick) your Wii. That is why you always use brick-buster before you burn a wii game from another region.

The update does nothing to modchips.

You shouldn't be burning Wii games... period. Or at least not advertising it if you do.

I'm going down town tomorrow to pick up Wii fit. We'll see if the new update works and solves my problem. ^_^

As soon as I updated mine for Brawl, it was shot a week later. I can still play VC games, but I still have to send it off to be fixed :[

Yea, I kinda prepared myself for the worst case scenario. My mate sent his off and it took 6 weeks to get it sorted. No MKWii for 6wks... Nooooooo. xP

First of all I never said I did. I was just correcting sugarpoultry's misconception on the workings of modchips for the wii.

And if I did, I would advertise it all I want to.

You should read the post more carefully next time before you go making accusations.

Someone's a little high and mighty on themself?
