Abnormal shutdowns

My PC has been having some instant shutdowns, mostly with BSODs. Right now I am thinking its the power supply or the CPU fan, because normally it gets extremely noisy before it dies. It usually happens when its left logged on all day/night, or if I use Photoshop or games for an extended amount of time.

Anyone know of any good diagnostic apps, to check heat levels and other things? Or maybe has anyone else have had problems like this?

I have to coax out a few more months to raise some money for a new PC, so I am hoping I can fix this.

Re: Abnormal shutdowns

It does indeed sound like an overheating problem.

Is your computer in a well-ventilated area? Are the fans unobstructed?

If so, I'd buy some compressed air, open the case, and spray stuff out to get rid of dust buildup (one of the most common causes of overheating problems.)

Re: Abnormal shutdowns

Try downloading GPUZ or CPUZ depending on if you wish to check the GFX Card or the Processor temperatures. Hope this helps.

Re: Abnormal shutdowns

Chances are, there isn't enough circulation going around the case, and from the symptoms you are describing, then yeah, overheating.

Check that both your graphics card and processor are not overheating. If you don't want to alt-tab out and not get a decent temperature, as soon as your computer shuts down, boot up and get into your BIOS screen then check on your PC Health from there to get a good reading.

It could be down to getting a new heatsink, increasing the fan speed of your GPU, re-applying thermal paste or even making your airflow more increased.

Compressed air works wonders.

Look for some cooling kits if neccesary, but if you keep getting The BSOD you shold take it to Best Buy and have it fixed or you can get a new one
