Making movie files in WMM

Howdy.

My sister makes a lot of movies in Windows Movie Maker, and her and her friends are usually good to do it themselves. They made one last weekend, longer than most of the other ones (around 8 minutes?), and tried to export it as a movie file. When they started doing that it came up with an error that said something about either not having enough space to save, or that the original files have been removed.

I asked her about all that, and she said they did copy some of the videos into a new folder, but they didn't actually remove them. She's been asking me how to save it for a few days and I'm completely out of ideas. :| There's enough space left on the hard-drive to save, and I've tried saving to her My Videos folder, and mine. Heeeelp. She'll kill me.

Re: Making movie files in WMM

Try this. Hold Ctrl and P in the WMM timeline. This should open up a save wizard where you can save her movie in a converted (if im not mistaken its a .wmv)file. She might have moved some of the clips/music in her timeline to a different folder, so try to relocate those clips.
Using CTRL+P is how you convert the file, allowing you to use it in different things, like uploading it onto youtube. If not, its still a .WMM project, not the converted file.

Hope I helped! : D

I know how to use the wizard and that, but it keeps coming up with an error when she goes to save it. Since then she's made two shorter videos, and they both saved fine.

Re: Making movie files in WMM

It's probably because she moved the original source files. I don't think WMM works in the same way other digital editing software does where it makes a duplicate of every cut video and stores it in a temp folder, thought I can't be sure (I used WMM once and it turned like six hours of work to dust in about two seconds, so I stopped using it). So when you move the source files the video from them is no longer accessable. WMP has the capability to track the files when you move them, but I doubt WMM has.

Looks like she may have to start over, though you could try moving the original files back to where they were and see if that helps, as long as they haven't been renamed in the moving process as well. If not, well, editing is always a time-consuming process, looks like this project may take a little more time as well.

I make movies all the time with WMM, all you have to do is right click the movie files and press "browse for missing file" after you've done that for all the clips it should work... btw what OS do you have? Mine is Vista.
