Fan Speed - I'm gonna go crazy!

As I am writing this... the cooler on my power supply is going crazy. The whole house can hear it spinning. I got no idea what the hell is happening but I need to turn down the rpm on it. I tried using SpeedFan with no results. Can anybody help me out with this I'm gonna go crazy!

Tried that already. But it seems as if something's wrong with my case... When I nudge the power supply to the side a bit the sound stops, as if the fan is actually scratching the side or something...

If your fan dies, you could really hurt your computer. Call the manufacturer! Of course, if the fan's just in your power supply, it's more likely that the power supply will die. We had 2 power supplies die this year so far.

Re: Fan Speed - I'm gonna go crazy!

Depends on what fan it is. If it's a case fan or CPU fan, they're cheap and easy to replace, but you should do some research. Some fans run very loud while others are quite silent. If it's the power supply making the noise, then you may need to replace that. Just be sure to get the proper voltage for your hardware. Just open your computer case while it's running and see where all the noise is coming from.

Have you tried cleaning the fan? If the blades are dusty, the fan makes a bunch of noise.

Re: Fan Speed - I'm gonna go crazy!

I did all of that. I opened up the power supply even and took the fan out. I thought of replacing the fan but the wires are molded to the board of the power supply. I cleaned it up but the noise still continued. I then figured whats going on. I don't really know how they are called in english but I mean those rings that are placed around rotors to make them run smoothly... :S Anyway, the one in the fan got old and now the fan isn't spinning straight but is quite out of place... I need to get a new PSU. -.- Ah well thanks for the help.

Well if your totally sure it's your power supply fan, and it's too hard to replace.
Then yes, if it's an old power supply, you might as well pick up a new one.

What is your current power supply voltage?
