Re: I NEED HELP WITH 3DS MAX 7
Hey Bingo, I'm only familiar with 3DS MAX5 and 5.1, so I'll tell you how it's done there and maybe version 7 is similar.
There is a button near the top right hand corner of the screen with 4 spheres: Blue, White, Red and Green, it's also called the Material Editor button. When you click it, a pop-up window will appear with a number of grey spheres and options underneath. Click on one of the grey spheres, then from the options underneath, select MAPS. After you click on Maps, a new set of options should appear with check boxes next to them, check the OPACITY checkbox, and click on the adjacent button labelled "NONE". When you click "None", a new pop-up window should appear with a list on the right hand side. On the left hand side, there should be a heading called Browse From, from that menu, select Mtl Library, this should refresh the list on the right hand side with an even bigger list. Take your time to browse through this list and look at the preview of materials on the small preview window in the upper left hand corner. When you're happy with the material you want, select it then click OK. From here on, you will need to fiddle with the settings to brighten/soften/sharpen the material to your liking. When you're happy with the material, all you do is select the circle from the Material Editor pop-up box and Click-Drag onto the model you want to add it to. I hope this was of some help, I'm not sure how 3DS Max 7 has changed but I hope this can be of some guidance. All the best and good luck ![]() |

Re: I NEED HELP WITH 3DS MAX 7
Thank you, Fox, that helps a lot.
How do I get textures in the Mtl Library?

Re: I NEED HELP WITH 3DS MAX 7
This I am not too sure of. in 3DS max 5, there already exists a large default selection, so you can just choose from them.
Alternatuvely, instead of selecting the Mtl Library option from the "Browse From" menu, you can select "New" from the same menu (Browse From), and there should be an option on the list on the right called Bitmap. This option allows you to import your OWN texture files in image format (.jpg/.png etc). Hope this helps and good luck once more ![]() |

Re: I NEED HELP WITH 3DS MAX 7
When you open up your material editor you see a lot of circles. Click one and then modify its attributes as written above. You can then drag and drop it on a model in your scene. As for the library, when you open up the library look for the button "Open" on the left side. Click it and you'll see some pre-defined libraries. You can download some on the internet too.
