PC Freezing
Recently my PC has been (for whatever reason) freezing. It's usually about once every four hours. It will happen while browsing the internet, sitting idle at the desktop, or playing a game: anywhere. I'm not sure of the cause. I cleaned it out and did a system restore to an earlier time, which at first I thought fixed the problem as it didn't freeze for several days... I thought it may have been a bug or virus.
Unfortunately, last night, it did it again, and then yet again this afternoon. It's not as often, but I'd really like to get it fixed. I assume it's a hardware problem... perhaps the CPU is heating up? I don't know, I'm no computer techie. But perhaps some of you are. If you have any experience with this or you just have a whim on what the solution is, please let me know. Any help is very much appreciated! Edit: Post 700?! |

Re: PC Freezing
Many have struggled with your problem, my boy. Many have tried and tried to solve this inevitable disaster, but to no avail. You, sir, have the virus known as Windows. Many people try to pass it off as an operating system, but sooner or later, the virus takes hold of their computer and they will not be able to do the simplest of tasks, as you have described.
I'm afraid there is only one cure, one way to get rid of it and have a future clear of all computer, and dare I say, life problems. That cure is.... Get a Mac.

Re: PC Freezing
ROFL @ Neo Link's Post.
Friend I love macs, but in this case I think we should try to help our fellow ZU brother here...Lets keep the mac/pc war for that thread ![]() To Trv016,Try running a series of scans, look for viruses, trojans,ad ware, spyware. If after clearing out all that stuff you still get that problem, open up you PC and check to see if anything is loose or corroded(corrosion may be harder to spot). If still nothing trying reinstalling windows.Full format. If that fails, well, its most likely a mobo problem.

Re: PC Freezing
It would also set him back over a thousand dollars and render every program he has ever purchased useless.

We can't be certain if he's in a position to go out to get a mac right now, So,I add,in addition to,Get a Mac, all those other things I added. Also, lets not drag the mac/pc war here ok? Lets leave the "Get a Mac" as an option. ![]()

Re: PC Freezing
Excuse me sir, but have you used a G5?!? That is a big piece of crap and set me back quite a bit financially. PC's FTW. Anyways, like I said Prevx1 is the solution. The source of the problem is probabbly located in system32 and only Prevx1 can go in there and fix the problem without destabilizing your system.

Re: PC Freezing
Many thanks for the great responses!
As much as I appreciate the replies, I probably won't jump up and get a mac due to my usual lack of funds (nobody's fault but mine, I suppose). As for the other suggestions, I will surely try every one of them. I was under the assumption that this was a hardware issue, but some of you seem to believe otherwise. Just curious, would a reformat of my hard drive possibly solve the problem? If so, I will consider it. I just hate losing all of my data. Once again, thanks a lot. |

Re: PC Freezing
Possibly. But it might be hardware problem - hard drive dying, motherboard fried, power supply unit malfunctioning, etc. Try a reformat and if it still doesn't work, get a new hard drive. If that new drive is messed up after like a month or two, get a new computer altogether.
