Uh oh..

Ok I have a problem with my iPod. I let my friend borrow it. It's a 30GB Video. He put some vids and songs on it. Well now heres the problem. I get it back and I have to reformat my iPod. He has a Mac and I am using windows so I have to reformat. When I reformat it, will it lose the videos and songs? Because I was going to use Ephpod to get the music off of it and load it into iTunes. But know im not so sure.

Re: Uh oh..

Well, reformatting anything wipes the drive clean, so yes, you will lose everything.

Re: Uh oh..

Set your iTunes to manual, that way you can use different computers without a problem.

Re: Uh oh..

That won't work yunsung. It doesn't even have the option to do that in iTunes. Im probably gonna have to buy this thing I saw mentioned in another forum. But its gonna set me back $30.

Not true. An iPod formated for a Mac is formatted with NAT4 or something like that (I forget). An iPod formatted for a PC is in FAT32 (again, something like that. I'm not sure.)

PC formatted iPod will work with mac and pc. Mac formatted will not work with pc. Ever. Period. Although, there might be a couple programs that will work with a mac formatted ipod on a pc. go to ilounge.com and search around.

So yeah, putting it in manually manage won't work. Kinda like trying to use a .exe file on a mac.

What you do is the following, go to this webpage and follow the instructions. I did it for my girlfriend and it worked perfectly! Also this was my first google hit... So umm next time use google, it saves you a lot of time.

Mac formatted iPods are HFS+ (Extended Hierarchical FileSystem) and you can get Windows to detect your Mac formatted iPod by using MacDrive from MediaFour. It's not free, but there's a free trial, which will give you enough time to install, and get the data off the iPod onto your PC, and then you can reformat, and add the data you took off it before to your iTunes library. Hope that helps.

Re: Uh oh..

Well, you could try backing all of your songs up on to your hard-drive (and then putting them back on after formatting the iPod), but that would probably take ages. And it probably wouldn't work. I'm kinda confused. Don't listen to me.
Just a suggestion though.
Oh, and I've got the same iPod as you!

About 30 minutes at most to back them up, and another 30 minutes to put them back on, I would estimate.

Still, you'd have all the music and in this case that's probably the most important thing. But yes, an hour is an insanely long amount of time to wait.
