iTunes?

I gotta question. I got a gift card for iTunes, and I'd like to try using it to get some mp3s, but I'm just curious-when you download the songs, is it only playable on iTunes or an iPod, or can it be used like a normal mp3 you can play on Windows Media player or a normal mp3 player?

Re: iTunes?

When you buy them, they're in m4p(?) protected format. Only iTunes and iPods can play them.

Aw, man!!! So I can't play them on my normal mp3 player? Or use 'em in edited movies?

Re: iTunes?

Yes you can.

Use iTunes to burn them to a CD, which essentially strips it of its DRM. Then just rip it back to your computer like you would a normal CD in whatever format you wish.

I stand corrected. Why haven't I thought of that? >_>

How, besides burning it to a CD, would one do that?

Get a converting program. >_< Not sure where you could find a free one, I've heard of Audacity or something, but I have no idea if it converts.

Re: iTunes?

Itunes can convert as well. Althought I don't know how to explain it to a windows user (as I run OSX on my computer). If I knew I would love to tell you.

Capn ceases to amaze me with his CDness and whatnot.

iTunes downloads are protected by DRM, so that just wouldn't work.

Re: iTunes?

It works; I've done it for many downloaded songs from different sources.

Try using a CDRW (rewritable/erasable CD), that way you don't waste a CD.
