Zune vs iPod

Yes, the big rivaly between the ever growing wars of the mp3 player business. The two hard hitters of this gen are of course the Zune and iPod 5G. The iPod, been around from a good 6 years (I think) and the new comer the Zune. We've all heard about the pros and cons of both and let me ask you this, what's better? Zune or iPod. I've been looking around, finding reviwes from dozens of poeple and places and so far, to me, the ipod seems to be winning. Now, what do you think? Zune/iPod or iPod/Zune?

I don't own either at the momment, but from what my friends tell me about their experiences with the devices, I personally seem to be leaning over to the side of the Zune. It has a huge screen, FM radio built in, easier to put on videos, and doesn't use a heat sensitive wheel thing. For some of you that might be a good thing, but whenever I try to use an iPod I always skip over the song I want about 3 times unitl I actually get it.

Re: Zune vs iPod

First off:

Zune=Microsoft=****ty piece of crap your gonna have problems with eventually (remember, with microsoft, it's not if, it's when).

iPod=Apple=Much more stable thing that's been around the block and has most of the bugges worked out.

I find it funny how a microsoft representitive said on the announcement of the Zune "This is the iPod killer."

The next day: "Microsoft did not intend for that statement to mean that the zune will overcome the iPod in sales, evan though it was said. We mearly meant that the Zune will be a competitor of the iPod."

Ah Bill Gates. Bullieing everyone around will only get you so far.

Because everyone loves bias.

I love how Apple like to deliver a product, then come 4-6 months later to punch you in the face with a new product with a new feature that should have been on the previous model, with a higher price tag, resulting in you giving even more money to fuel this rabid circle.

Steve Jobs, I applaud you on one thing, and one thing only. Money.

Which company doesn't?

I find the video function unneccesary, so I'll go for the standard I-Pod.

Re: Zune vs iPod

Generally, comapanies tend to innovate their products. Instead of rehashing them.

And I'm afraid, there is no "standard" iPod anymore. There's either this, that, or a slice of bread. In this case, you have your 5.5G, Nano and Shuffle. The most "standard" I imagine you want is probably a Nano, due to lack of video support. Just don't lose it or snap it in half.

Erm, Steve Jobs dosn't own Apple anymore. If your going to blame anyone, blame corperate expansion. And I was only stating my opinion, that everything that i own and was made by Microsoft, has either broken or been a very low quality product, while Apple has never, ever let me down.

I don't like the corperation, but they make a good product.

Re: Zune vs iPod

I'm sorry, what's that, Steve Jobs is CEO of Apple!? Oh my!

I also recall using the mathmatical term "=" means equates. Which leads me to assume what you said is fact, by your record. But wait, you say it's opinion now?

And I recall my old Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical mouse being damn good. And that Microsoft keyboard I had a while back. Good quality build.

Compared to some friend's iPods which run out of battery every 5 mins and tend to need replacing after a few months.

However, I will praise Apple on one thing. Design. But still, even that clean look is getting tired and overused now.

Re: Zune vs iPod

I can't say I've actually heard of Zune, but I've got an 30GB iPod Video. I used to have a standard iPod, but it got smashed (well, not really smashed, more dropped, I guess) about at school, and I would be highly impressed if anything survived getting dropped and yanked (Don't take your iPod to school, people!). My only gripes about the iPod is that it is a total smudge magnet, and scratches very easily, but this can be resolved by investing in a cover, case, or an iSock (which are very cute, but you'd probably be better using a case). Also, there are tons of different kinds - Nano, Shuffle, the list goes on - but I guess that's just to accommodate varying sizes of music librarys and stuff. It can get confusing though:confused:.
I find the iTunes software - and the iPod its self - very user-friendly. And, the iPod is pretty robust.
So overall, the iPod is a PDQ piece of kit, and I think you'd be hard pushed to find a better MP3 player.

Let's do this in order.

I've dropped my Creative (I have a Zen Vision:M) four to five times in the near-year that I've had it, but it's never broken. It's only frozen twice, too, something that iPods do rather frequently (at least more than they should). A device that breaks when you drop it but once is a sign that it sucks.

I don't like iTunes, or, more specifically, how it works in conjunction with the iPod. They're too inter-dependent (if that's a word). What I mean is, if you delete a song on iTunes, it *poofs* from your iPod, too. And vice-versa. With my Creative, I can delete songs seperately and upload from mp3 player to computer as well. I must say, though, iTunes is quite user-friendly, as you said.

Well, technically, the iPod plays m4as, but that's not important. I really am not a big fan of it, though. I mean, it's an alright product, but it's expensive/overpriced and there are plenty of cheaper, better alternatives.

Re: Zune vs iPod

Both the iPod and the Zune are inferior DAPs when compared to Creative, Cowon, Archos, and iRiver models.

Wrong, I had an iPod nano and I got rid of one album on my computer and the songs stayed on my Nano.

iAudio X5's are excellent, however were out of my price range at the time. A friend has an Archos Gmini 402 Camcorder edition, and he loves it. I had a look, and the screen is great for such a small thing.

Anyway, I currently tote a iRiver H10 20GB, which is pretty damn perfect for me. May stick Rockbox on it sometime.

Agreed entirely.

Really? I didn't know you could do that. How would you delete that album from your Nano, though? I know you can't delete from the iPod itself. That's a nice feature about my Creative; I can delete things from the device without a computer.
