CD Player exploded

I'm looking for an answer as to why this happened. OK, it happened with my brother. He was playing Civilisation III Conquests, using one of his mods, when the CD Player made a bang and started stinking of smoke. We couldn't work it anymore, and had to pull apart the computer to get the player out. We found several wires had broken off, and that his game disk was completely shattered. We put the player back in the computer (as best as we could, and after getting the broken game out), and tried the computer. The computer worked absolutely fine, but the CD Player didn't respond what-so-ever. We think one of those wires was the one that fed electricity to the Player.

Now, our computer is 5 or 6 years old, Windows XP, a 'tiny' computer (the company), and th CD Player is only three months old, and we brought it from a well recognised Computer shop down the road from where I live. I want to know why the CD Player exploded. It's only three months old!

If anyone can tell me. There's no hope of fixing it now, but I'm just ineterested into why it may have blown up and shattered the CD inside.

Tiny make horrible, horrible computers which is why they are now out of business.

Your CD Drive may have "blown-up" due to a power surge, I would imagine, from the cheap ass PSU they would have supplied.

Best get a new CD Drive, regardless, they are cheap anyway so.

The thing is, the computer is 'tiny', but the CD Player isn't. It was from another company, because our previous one which came with the computer deteriorated (a lengthy process). I wonder if it was something to do with it not being compatible with each other.

I've never ever heard of that computer company before and it dosn't sound so well known, and that might be because they don't make very
good computers, or your computer is just to old^^

Yami mentioned it's the lame ass cheap PSU that Tiny supplied that caused the explosion. So it doesn't matter if the CD player is from another credible company or not, the fault may perhaps be at the PSU that came with the computer itself in the first place.

Your computer is 5 to 6 years old, right? Just get a whole new computer. Self constructed PC with custom parts costs less than $1,000 lately anyway.

In a way, I'm not too suprised it was the main computer anyway. This computer has been just crawling along for about two years now, but it refuses to break outright. And my dad won't get a new computer until it does! He refuses to by anything until it is completely unusable, you name it, TVs, computers, Microwaves. It gets annoying sometimes, when the thing is almost unusable, but not completely, but it seems so pointless to still have the almost broken object...
But anyway, thanks. I guess this is pretty much solved. That'll be another CD Player on the Credit Card! I can only hope this computer breaks soon...

Computers... they are either awesome or pieces of ****.

I suggest replacing any parts directly connected to the defective parts. Or a new comp. (If you do get a new one, dell aint that good and alienware is too expensive.)

If you are to get a new computer, build it yourself. It's not hard, and works out cheaper in the long run and is also semi-educational.

Indeed. My friend made a computer stronger than most computers you can get on market for just under $1200.
