AVIs not working!

For some reason, AVI files no longer work when I play them. When I ply them they play like they're audio files instead of video files. I can hear the sounds from the videos, but the picture isn't there. Does anyone know how to solve this?

Okay some questions first:

- When did .avi files stop working? What was the last change you made before they stopped working?
- What program(s) are you using to play the .avi files and what operating system are you running?
- Do all your avi files do this or only some of them? (I think you answered this in your first post but I just want to be sure).

-I don't really remember, though I have installed one or two things on my computer in recent months...

-Windows Media player 11, running on Windows XP

-They all seem to be acting this way.

I use it for all my videos, I had the same problem with the sound only thing.

Update your graphics card - same thing happened with me when I updated to windows media player 11.

The once updated the install k-lite mega pack of codecs that should do it all.

could be missing some codecs. you can use several programs like GSpot to find out what codecs the AVI needs then just download them from a webiste like fourccc.org (if it is still running)

Don't get them large codec packs, get VLC instead. Its free and you won't need to download these to get .avi to play. Graphics card won't have anything to do with it either as its an encoding/decoding issue.

Thanks for that tip, they work now, at least most of 'em anyway: Some of them appear upside-down...
