Aw crap my stupid TV died.

My TV with all my consoles hooked up to it just died. It went all staticy, the picture went black and white, but the sound is fine. It's about 8 or 9 years old (needed an RF Adapter). I looked at the picture controls, they're fine. Looked at all the wires, also fine. Any suggestions? I don't think TVs just die. I have been saving for a new TV anyway, but I'd still like to know whats with this one.

I don't think TVs just die.

8-9 year old ones do. It was its time, we cannot mourn forever.

Mine just went Poof and died. I'll miss you fricken 25" inch (or however big it was ). My mom just sat down and it turned black and died. Oo

Most TVs don't outlast a decade. My old one lasted 15 years before it started to go wrong, but it was an exception rather then the rule.

I'd say get a new TV, odds are getting your old one repaired will cost quite a bit. Just be sure to get as long a warranty as you can, I've had very bad luck with modern TVs lasting about a month longer then their warranty and then quitting.

Alright. Thanks, maybe I can talk my parents into wide screen high def...

I think you almost have to, non-high-def TVs stop being sold sometime this spring. Besides, pretty much everything but TV is now only in high-def, and even that's going to change in a couple of years.

Are you serious, GDwarf? Does this mean a huge price drop in HD-TV now?

...Bah, checking, it turns out that it's 2009 that that's going to happen, not sure why I thought it was 2007.

However, it still stands that if you buy a new TV you should get HD, since non-HD isn't going to be supported for much longer.

Yup yup, got it HD Widescreen nice and big. And I won't get a huge loss in my wallet. Hello games, meet your new owner... me and my Wii

And I was hoping for a total global domination of HD-TV this year.

They are introducing HD channels way too slowly. Although I can understand why. Many households still use analogue signals with antennas. And some don't even have access to cable. Not to mention the HD-TV prices... -_-

If the picture just went black and whit and was still playing then it was probably just the tube and could of been reapired cheaply, not that it matters now.

My Dad has had this same TV for about 15+ Years now, its been throught 3 tubes but he just cant let it go.

this happened to me, my TV went blank but you could still hear it, but as soon as we got a new TV in the house, we were about to unplug the old TV, then it started working fine again.
That really sucked, the message here is, make sure 100% that its actually broke before you even think of buying a new one.

All TVs aren't going to be HDTV. SDTVs will still be sold, but simply with a digital ATSC tuner inside instead of an old NTSC.

I wouldn't really agree with that. Local HD channels=practically all you need. Add on a couple of freebies like HBO HD, EPSN HD, Music Television HD (or whatever it's called now), TNT HD, Discovery HD (teh Wootz), and PBS HD (once again teh wootz) and you won't even feel like checking SD channels anymore.

Plus this year both Comcast and DirecTV are introducing a plethora of new channels thanks to a new stop and go casting system.

i was so happy after a few years it never turned on agian T_T
oh well i have a great tv now but that will die soon too ^_^

I thni keither the circuit board has either burnt out or the tv has just got clogged up with dust, i suggest you either


1) get it fixed by a specialist
2) by a new tv, a more modern one perhaps?

With the TV being that old, fixing by a specialist is not worth it. Just buy a new one.

I found the problem... it's really stupid. Someone put it on channel 2 rather than 3! I wanted a new TV
