First of all, how do you connect to the internet?

You need either a USB cord or a Wireless Router. I got a 2Wire Wireless Router.

Re: Do Wii Have A Problem//Official Wii help forum

There are currently 3 ways to connect your Wii to the internet:

The simplest is to buy a Nintendo Wifi USB dongle. You plug that into your PC (must be running windows XP), connect to the internet, tell the Wii to search for it, and you're up and running.

If you already have a wireless router then you simply have to tell your Wii to find it, if you don't (and don't want the Nintendo dongle) then you could buy one, set it up, then tell your Wii to connect to it.

The final way is to get a USB to ethernet adapter and a router. After you've got the router set up you plug the USB to ethernet adapter into the Wii, hook it up to the router, and tell your Wii to find that connection.

I knew I was forgetting something. If you have a wireless Router then you're lucky. I already do.

You can use the Nintendo Wifi USB connector even without a wireless internet connection, yes. You can order one from the Nintendo Online Store, and I believe that most consumer electronics stores also sell them.

But anyway, how do I get a connection to the internet without keeping my computer on all night, and without needing a wire going up the stairs. If I need a wireless router (I have tiscali Broadband dial up connection), tell me which one and where I can perhaps purchase it. I live in the UK for reference, around Chelmsford.
I think you should get a fon router. They only cost about £5 but they're of reasonable quality. the catch is you have to join fon. Joining fon is free but you have to let other fon members use your connection (if they're in range)
so your not aloud password the router.

Not that I've heard of, and I can't think of why it would.

I'd just go with the official Nintendo one. Why waste money if you know one will already work.

You should keep in mind that unless you're getting the Nintendo one your computer will likely need a Wireless network card and you'll probably have to change where you plug in your ethernet cable.

Re: Do Wii Have A Problem//Official Wii help forum

Well, is it a wireless router? If so you're going to have to hook it up to the internet, and most people don't have multiple cables in the same room to do that with. If you do then you're fine, but if you don't you'll have to hook up the wireless router to the internet, then give your computer the hardware to use the router to connect to the internet.

Now, a router does have advantages over the USB connector. The router will allow your Wii to be connected 24/7, while the USB connector will only allow your Wii to connect to the internet while your computer is on and connected to the internet.
