explorer.exe not loading on startup.

My brother was using the computer earlier and claims he didn't do anything weird. The only thing he noticed was that there was a "virtual memory is low" notice and the computer was kind of acting slow.

I was on for about five minutes, just listening to music and the like, when Media Player froze and everything kind of slowed down. This happens occasionally, and I usually solve it by closing the offending file from Task Manager, and occasionally explorer.exe when it is not working properly.

Unfortunately, explorer.exe did not show up again when I tried to load it with the "Load Task (Run...)" option in Task Manager. I turned off and reset the computer several times, but it is still not loading. I really have no idea what to do.

Can anyone help?

Re: explorer.exe not loading on startup.

Sounds like you have a spyware/adware problem and not a big enough hardrive/ enough memory.

You should get a bigger harddrive and some more memory. Back up your data by slaving it to another PC and transfering the data. Then reinstall Windows. Slave the drive and then transfer your data back.

When you slave the drive for the first time, DO NOT copy the Windows folder. Bad things happen when you put it back.

Re: explorer.exe not loading on startup.

could just be a bad set of files, pop in your CD and choose upgrade install. This will effectively repair every single file in the windows folder.

to fix it temporarily, pres ctrl+alt+del then go to the applications tab and run explorer.exe from there.

again "upgrade install"
