Norton tortures in death...
Norton Antivirus had shut itself off a year ago. After uninstalling the program, it still tries to scan any Microsoft Office program and any document in that program. How can I get rid of it for good? I got AVG for an antivirus program to replace it.

Re: Norton tortures in death...
I found the removal program, but Norton itself closes the installation before it begins.

Re: Norton tortures in death...
To be honest, Norton is a virus by itself. It locks everything that it deems unsafe, prompts you to click okay for all the warning messages that it pops up, demands that you subscribe to its services every single damn ****ing year, drains lots of your computer's resources, changes your system configuration as it sees fit, makes your life harder by not uninstall easily and nicely, and finally, misses viruses that other antivirus programs can detect.

Re: Norton tortures in death...
Norton is ok for me, the only trouble i had was actually getting Live Update workin properly. I've had no problems with Norton and it uninstalls properly from the PC as well.

Re: Norton tortures in death...
Norton is finally gone. I had to go around a couple of times around the site, but it's finally gone. I'm so happy! I'd like to thank Gerudo for the site and the solution. Thank you so.

McAfee is just as bad, it eats system resources and you can't get rid of it. I still have McAfee files hiding on my HDD.

Re: Norton tortures in death...
I reccommend Grisoft's AVG Antivirus. It's free, and won't eat up system resources or bug you. Ever. In fact, the only downside is the fact that you can't make a custom scan schedule. You can set it to scan daily, weekly, or monthly, but that's about it. A nightly scan is probably your best bet, and in that case, so is AVG.

Re: Norton tortures in death...
I recommend knowing what you're doing. I have yet to install any anti virus or adware scanners. I periodically check using free online scanners and my comppy is always clean, minus cookies.
Get Firefox if you haven't already or Opera now that its free. Dont visit sites you cant trust, namely warez sites. Completely disable Internet Explorer from 'Set program access and defaults'. If you notice your comppy acting up, get a free scan. Check your registry every once in awhile by going to Run>Regedit. If you have no clue what your looking for dont bother even looking in there, as you could do some real damage to your comp. |
