Playing FFVII PC with a SNES pad

A while back I managed to connect my SNES pad to my PC's parallel port. Today I decided to play FFVII again, but this time I want to use my SNES pad because I hate using a the keyboard and because I have no other PC controller. (Yes, I know, the SNES pad has only 8 buttons while FFVII needs 10. I'll make do.)

The problem is, I can't get the FFVII Config menu to recognize the SNES inputs. I've tried other drivers, and I tried to get SNESkey to work, but no go. Does anyone here know how I might be able to get my SNES pad to work with FFVII?
