I think Dial-up is dying. I hated dial-up when I still had it. My computer is still freakin' slow even with my broadband connection... One time, (when I had dial-up) I tried to download the first level of Lego Star Wars for the PC form the web, and while it was downloading, the reamaining time was 6 HOURS! Ugh, I'm happy that I got broadband for my birthday... Still, sooner or later, dial-up will be out of buisness and everyone will have to get a wireless connection.
I was on a dial-up connection for 5 or so years when we switched over to DSL. And I must say, I was in heaven for the time we did have it. But we had to cut the DSL service because we were moving soon, and when we moved to my new house, we found out we couldn't get anything but satellite internet because of my location. While it's not as bad as dial-up, it's certainly frustrating at times. It always loses signal during slight showers and cloud overpasses and is almost impossible (besides MMORPG's) to play any online game on because of the 2-3 second delay you get with the internet.
Yeah, dial-up is slow, cost more money than it's worth, and is a pain for people who want to use the internet for multi-media uses. I feel your pain.
Haku will say this:
"The haiku inspires passion,
though the method tires."
Without dial-up to start off, there wouldn't be an Internet. You might hate it now, but imagine all those people who used dial-up to surf the Internet for the first time. They were really happy with the results.
Ugh, I hated dial-up so much. 56KB's per second is not fast enough anymore. There are ads and pop-ups all over the internet (though you can get rid of pop-ups; not all of them though). You can sit there and wait five minutes just so that you can allow one ad to load. DSL is probably mandatory now. I only wish that Cable internet (and any other high-speed internet connection) wasn't so expensive. I hate it how you can only get one cable provider per area. That makes no competition. Your internet provider can pretty much raise the prices as they please, and you can’t do a thing about it. Sure, you can choose between lower and higher internet connections, but I want to have high-speed internet without paying so much...
Hah I remember my old days with Aol and the 56k modem......
I fried 6 modems trying to download 3gigs of linux lol. Now I got nice DSL which is 786K and downloads at about 190kb/s compared to Dialups 5.6kb/s its alot better and it cost less too!!!
We once had dial-up... It made me want to find the person who made it and kick his butt until he addressed me as "Sir" for the rest of his life...
But luckly, over here in new york, there is a plan where you can get the greatest plan on earth... Here it is:
You get road runner, which is 70 Times faster than Dial-up or DSL, and it's true, I'm on it right now...
You get Digital phone, which has UNLIMITED MINUTES throughout the US and Canada AND Puerto Rico... For only 40.00$ a month... no more, no less...No hidden fees, no nothing...
You can also get Digital Cable, which is like satillite, but you need NO, and I repeat, NO equiptment! All you need is regular cable, a DVR box, which comes free, and you are hooked for over 2000 channels! They will also throw a upgrade in for HD (High Definition) TVs! FREE! Also with your DVR you can pause, rewind, and record live TV!
If you buy each one at once, well, you got a lot of money to spend on it right? Well, why not get the all in one plan where you get them all for $29.00! Thats right!
I remember the days when I was still on dial up, and I have to say that I am happy that I finally got out of the dark ages and got wireless intenet. On the plus side the cellular store the I work at also sells internet, which means I get free wireless internet at my house...ah free is so nice

AAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!! I got say dial up dose suck cause it takes along time for things to load on it and that really sitnks cause I can be a very inpatient Alian being so dial up don't work for me and other members of my family, thats why my family uses D.S.L.
I suffered from dial up for about....all my internet knowing life! UnTiL...about two weeks ago! I just got cable internet, the speeds are blazing fast. Although, after getting cable, I still feel hesitant about trying to watch movies or download large files...I guess its the dial up after effect.
but yeah, when the Super smash Brawl trailer came out, I only got to see the screen shots. And it took me all night to download the trailer, so I had to hurry and watch it before my bus got to my house.
...so many bad dial up memories....I'm so glad I have cable now!
(I never had problems with my phone getting tied up because we bought an extra phone line, which altogether cost about as much as cable)
