Of those two, MP3.

Did you mean to ask MP3 or M4A? Because the iPod can't even play WMA's.

Yes, the Ipod will only recognize the family of MP3. No WMA or MIDIs work. I've tried.

Re: need help here...

Are there any MP3 players that will play MIDIs and WMAs? I mean you could always use a converter, if you had to. But is there a player that can spare you the extra step?

ummmm........basically what they said up above....if you have wma files, get iTunes and it'll take them, find them, and convert them to mp3 format for iPod use, mine did that anyway

They sound like crap after that. Doubled lossy compression = Bad.

There's a whole world of MP3 players outside the feature-lacking iBrick - Most of them play WMA, and sometimes even OGG.

WMA generally takes up less space than MP3 at the same bitrates. The flipside, however, is it consumes more power on playback. I've never really been able to discern any significant difference in sound quality between the two, though MP3 does seem to handle a lot of cymbal action better than WMA at higher volumes.

I've noticeed this too, about the mp3 files seems to play some of the more sharp distorted sounds slightly better than that of WMA. But WMA makes some good bass as well, mp3 is ok as well. Personally, since i have an iPod, and iTunes, the files i usually listen to are in mp3, thats mainly the only reason I'm biased towards them
