Photoshop help: converting files

Hi there,
Im running Mac OS 10.4.6 and am wondering how to change photoshop files to jpg or something to that nature. I know how to open a .psd file in preview, but that doesn't change the file type. Any help would be great

open the file up in photoshop>file>save as>select the format from the format drop list>save

If you don't have photoshop then you can't save the .psd file in a different format.

Actually, you can. Other high-end image editing apps, such as PaintShop Pro, support the PSD format, meaning you can open/save PSDs there too.

Which is totally off the point of the thread, but I felt the need to say it.
