Rate My TV Pick

After much internet shopping for TVs, I've finally decided on one. But first, let me give you my criteria and what I've been looking for.

1. Must be HDTV
2. Must be capable of both 1080i and 720p
3. Must have an HDMI port, for PS3
4. Must be LCD. The idea is this would be a TV I could take to college and put in my dorm, without taking up a horrible amount of space. Plus, LCDs are just sexy, and are crying to be on my bedroom wall.
5. Must be less than $1000
6. Must be bought from a quality manufacturer to insure less dead pixals

Another thing I was looking at was digital sound on the TV, through HDMI. However, I couldn't find a TV that would do both 720p and 1080i, and feature Virtual Surround Sound. Alot of the TVs only allowed for display at 540p and 1080i, automatically upconverting video to that standard. For me though, who isn't just an average joe but a techie enthusiast, that limit was a real turn off.

And here it is.

The fruit of months of searching. I'm hoping it'll drop another $100 before I get around to buying it. My only concern is the screen size is a TINY bit too small. I look at it every time I'm at Best Buy, and it's actually pretty good sized. Don't let the 19" fool you. I think a 21" would be perfect though. Too bad those are all over the $1000 mark.

Nice. But no HDMI port. HDMI is a device that actually gives you real Digital Image on your TV, as well as awesome digital sound. EX: For Digital Cable, digital content is sent to your box from the cable providers. Then, it leaves your box to be hooked up to the TV with some type of wire. The wires, however, have to convert the signal to analog video, causing slightly worse picture quality. DVI and HDMI wires however, are capable of carrying digital content, giving your TV pure digital picture as well as sound (but only with HDMI).

And 19" isn't really that small. We're talking about widescreen here.

Yeah. I did my own search and that was the only TV that popped up. While the screen is bigger, and the resolution is slightly better, the brightness and refresh rate isn't as good as the TV I have picked out. Plus, the Sony TV has a lot of different TV technologies included (one of my favorite is Steady Sound, which prevents commercails and different channels from being at different volume levels.). On the other hand, the above TV supports digital audio through the HDMI cable. Sony's seems to, for some stupid and weird reason, allow for digital picture but only analog sound through the classic red and white cables. This I'm not sure about though, since in the "Features" section, they say it has both the digital audio and video support. Maybe it means that it can do analog audio for devices that only have a DVI port, which only carries video, and not audio signals. (DVI to HDMI cables are common. I have one. Heck. Wal-Mart has one.)

Click. Click.
See? Not too many impressive TV technologies. They both have the noise reduction one, however.
