Speaker Shutdown

Today my speakers completely went dead. For the last couple days, I noticed that they were kinda dying, I didn't expect them to stop like this. I would have a difficult time getting them to work, and I'd have to move them around sometimes to get them to turn on. Sometimes, they'd be on real quick, and then turn off. Today, they don't work at all, or at least barely. As I went by adjusting and changes from the switches and cords, I'll get it to go on for a split second, but then just die.

If its possible, do any of you know how I could go about fixing this? Otherwise, what would be a good choice of new speakers for a 2001/2002 Dell computer?

Re: Speaker Shutdown

Wow thats sounds busted... Its either that or your sound card is playing games with you. Try and find some crappy other speakers and see if they do the samething as your current speakers.

Then it will tell you if its the speakers or a sound card you should be buying.

Re: Speaker Shutdown

Well, if it was a soundcard that was broken, wouldn't the speakers still at least turn on, but not give any sound?

Re: Speaker Shutdown

If they don't turn on and they are plugged in correctly I would think you need new speakers.

Re: Speaker Shutdown

It happened to me that they weren't plugged in and that the plug itself was broken or bent. If not your only choice is new speakers actually even if the plug is bent you may need new speakers.....

Re: Speaker Shutdown

They are probably busted, I drop mine so many times, anyways, I have the dell speaker and they are pretty cheap and do the job well (you can alos get the ones with the subwoofer, the ones I have)

Re: Speaker Shutdown

Could it be some cable maybe? Maybe one of the cables that run through your speakers is twisted wrong or has been worn out (From the inside) and it no longer works anymore. Just a thought.
I doubt it's something wrong with your sound card, they would still turn on if it was your sound card.
As suggested above, try some random speakers and see if they work, if they don't then it's probably your sound card or the electical outlet (Rare chance in it being the electrical outlet tho).

Re: Speaker Shutdown

You could just fork out $30+ for some new 2.1 speakers. Your computer doesn't matter to what speakers you can have, just that your sound card needs to be 7.1 surround sound compatible to use 7.1 speakers, and 5.1 enabled and so on. My advice, get another pair of speakers to test the sound card, and if they work fine buy them. I would suggest some Creative speakers or just get a Sennheiser headset or something similar.
