Is it a wireless router I need?

Ok, I need a thing cleared up that has been bugging me. I have been thinking of getting a laptop for my bedroom and I want it to have internet access. Though I don't want to buy another subscription for a new connection. I have broadband downstairs and I need to know how I will get this connection upstairs, wirelessly. Is it a wireless router I need? If it is not a wireless router that I need, is there any other ways?

I'm a newb with these kind of things.

Thanks.

Yes, you need a wireless router unless you want a 50 foot-long cable running through your house.

Go for this one. I have the original RangeMax model, and it works like a dream, with no slow downs noticable between wired and wireless. I'm sure the new RangeMax is even better.

Personally I perfer Linksys. My Linksys Wireless G router has never failed me. I have also set up Linksys Routers for both my Grandparents, and they all work great.

They cost about 50$ - 70$, depending on what sales they have.

Re: Is it a wireless router I need?

My D-Link DI-784 was pretty top of the line last November. And from D-Link, it apparently still pretty much is. To answer your question though: Yeah. You just have to get a wireless router. They make things pretty convientent. The purpose of a laptop is portability, which you'll have with a wireless router.
