The Official iPod Thread

Well, Lets get this new sub-section rolling.

The Official iPod Thread

Nowadays, Its hard to go anywhere and not see those infamous white headphones. These mp3 jukeboxes seem to be taking the world by storm. Use this thread to talk about everything iPod-related, such as...
  • Who has an iPod?
  • What model do you have?
  • What do you like/dislike about it?
  • How much space are you using on it?
If you have a problem with your iPod, you can also ask in here to get help. All other threads pertaining to iPods will be merged with this one.

I have a 60 GB ipod, with around 5500 songs on it and 1800 pictures. Using up about half of the available space. I use it daily in the car with the iTrip. Makes having a CD player in your car totally useless when you have your whole music collection in one place.

Anyone else?

Re: The Official iPod Thread

iPods can go die. I prefer my iCD player when I go on iTrips, and whenever I'm iKicking somebody's ass.

Whew man, I really do hate those things.

Yeah, I've heard of screen problems on them. Apple is recalling a bunch and fixing screens for free. Check their website, they've also made a bunch of covers for them to prolong screen life.

Re: The Official iPod Thread

Not a fan of the iPod. I plan on getting an mp3 player sometime this year and if anything, it won't be an iPod. Only reason I see the iPod being more popular than it's competitors is a head-start on the competition and an admittedly excellent advertising campaign. Everyone knows what an iPod is; they are to mp3s as Kleenex are to tissues.

I'm looking to picking up a decent 20gb Creative Zen player or a iRiver of the same size once I have enough money.

Well, anytime a company takes an existing product (i.e. the mini) and makes it smaller and adds a little something (i.e. a color screen to the nano) People will buy into it no matter how small the difference is. That is unfortunately the way it goes.

I hate how people are so ignorant to all of the MP3 players out there. I have myself an iPod, but it's nearing 3 years old - that's before it bewcame some sort of fahion statement, at least around here. I know that when I got my old 3G 40 gig iPod, no one else had an MP3 player at all. Now every kid in my school walks around with an iPod Mini. Makes me kind of sick that I only know one person with a Zen. And he's actually the type that knows his computer stuff.

I am incredibly satisfied with my iPod, however. It's been going for three years strong and it's still an amazing little thing, has held all of my music without ever complaining, and even got Linux on it (great for Pod Shanking, a line-out song transfer method). I wanted it to last me through high school, and I really think it will do just that. 40 gigs is a lot of space, still big for an MP3 player even by todays standards, so I'm glad I bought big with the purchase. People are walking around wit their Mini's and Nano's, and I laugh wondering why they bought a player that doesn't fit every song they'll ever have, because I feel that taking out songs to replace the, with other songs kind of defeats the purpose of getting an iPod, since they're so overpriced.

My friend is looking into a Zen 40GB, since it's $200 at the Optimum Store (our ISP, which discounts things for members at their online store: http://www.optimumstore.com/). I think it's a great choice. However, I do feel that while overpriced, iPods have become the Kleenex of MP3 players for a good reason, aside from the jumpstart, they work well. Damn well. And pretty easy, too. Anyone can set up an iPod and get songs on it without knowing hardly anything.

It's that simplicity and ease, plus the head start anmd ad campain that gives iPod the edge over everyone else, even if the prices are a bit steep. They've got something for everyone, and they do their job well.

DISCLAIMER: I have never had experience with any other MP3 except my own iPod, 3rd Generation, 40GB. Any info given is based only on what I know about my own iPod, and what I assume about other MP3 players. I am in no way against other MP3 players, in fact I support people buying something less expensive than an iPod for an alternative. However, I do believe that if you have the cash to fork over, and you know what size you want/need, go for an iPod.

Re: The Official iPod Thread

I got an Ipod Shuffle for my birthday. It only has room for 120 songs on it, and most songs I listen to are about four minutes, so. . . . . . . . .I don't really use it much, either, since it dies too often. I'm not sure, but I think it's like 42 GB or something. Probably not, since that seems to big, but oh well.

I like the idea of iPod, but everyone I meet has it for the sole reason of looking cool and bragging. They're just stupid kids that don't know a thing about what they just wasted $250 on.

Re: The Official iPod Thread

As much as I hate the fact that the iPod has taken over the world, I would love to have a 60GB color one. Yuuuumm....I can imagine it now. That is just so much space for music, it's incredible. The Nano is very sexy, but it's to small for my standards.

Maybe, just maybe, someday I'll buy an iPod...for now I'll stick with my CD Player/Minidisc Player.

Yeah that's exactly how I feel. Right now I am using a generic MP3 that has only 256MB, that's roughly around 80 songs, and I have about 70. The reason I want an iPod is because It will hold all the songs I want to add to my current MP3...but sadly my parents won't buy one for me, and I don't get allowance...meh.

Re: The Official iPod Thread

Yeah, the popularity of them annoys me too. I remember the good old days when I had my 3G 30GB ipod and I was literally the only person in my school with one. Then 2 years later, every other person has a mini clipped to their belts. =\

Re: The Official iPod Thread

I want one badly, why....because my cd player is getting old now and a cd can simple not hold enough songs for my taste. But I'm happy with my cd player for now it's served my well on long travels.

I plan on getting one (maybe mini) later next year or so after I pay off all my dvd's and stuff.

Re: The Official iPod Thread

I just want an MP3 player I don't care what it is as long as it holds more than 200 songs. I think I might be getting lucky this christmas and I might get an iPod. Probably a mini or a nano, I would prefer the mini since the nano looks like it can get lost in my pocket.

200 songs? You won't need a mini. 1GB can hold 200 songs easily, and if you really want an Apple product, then the Shuffle should suffice you. Otherwise you could just grab a 1GB stick player, and that will do you. For me, I have 7GB+ of music, and alot of videos so an iRiver would suit me. Maybe a PMP-140 or a H340. Both are sexy, and both kick the iPod's ass in both user functionality and looks. In my opinion of course. Others are suffice to disagree, but then again, it's down to user preference.
