Videos are turning into folders

I've been having this problem lately where my video files are just all of a sudden being recognized as folders with nothing in them.

I'm really not sure why it's happening, and it seems like nobody on the internet has really had this problem. I can't seem to find info on it.

Any ideas what's going on?

Re: Videos are turning into folders

IS it on your HDD or on a mass memory? Either way, it's either a malware or this bug.

Re: Videos are turning into folders

You certain that those used to be video files and aren't just actual folders that have the same name, like what Bittorrent et al create?

They all have extensions at the end of their names, it can't be that.

Re: Videos are turning into folders

Yeah, i'm positive.
The one in the second picture actually turned back into a video, but the few other ones have not.
Really not sure what the deal is.

I can't open the folders either.

This is on a HDD plugged in to a router, by the way. Just if that makes a difference.

Scanned a few of my computers for virus and malware, but nothing. This is a real head scratcher.

Re: Videos are turning into folders

Unfortunately, it didn't help. Thanks for the link though.

Somewhat of a similar situation though, since I'm also using a linksys router.

Re: Videos are turning into folders

It does it on the 4 computers, it doesn't show up on the ps3 at all, and they show up on the boxee and smart tvs, but won't play.

So it's not limited to just the computers. Oh, and I should mention, the one laptop is windows xp, while the others are 7.

So i'm not really sure where the cause might be.

Have you enabled crypted FTP on your Win7 computer?

Re: Videos are turning into folders

Encrypt all the information sent through File Transfer Protocol, which is the protocol used to communicate with your PS3 and other LAN computers. If it is on, only the PCs with Win7 with FTP encryption on can see the contents. Though I've never seen this happens unless it's a malware, you should check on that.

Re: Videos are turning into folders

I doubt it's malware. Sounds like your router or HDD is failing and sending poor/bad data to the connected computers.
