PS3 worth fixing?

My ps3 which i have owned for only 2 years works no longer. It turns on however there is no video/sound. I have tried MANY times to put it into safe mode with no luck... just a blank screen. I've talked to the walkthrough Sony people on the phone as well as search youtube etc.

It's gonna cost me 150 bucks to send it into Sony to fix. I have the shipping box and everything but it's only really worth it to me if I can save all my game data. If I'm gonna have to get a returned system with a wiped or new hard drive I might as well buy a new system (bc I could get a new system with an extra controller and probably a game bundle for not too much more than it costs to fix).

I have also tried removing the hard drive and putting it back in.

Any suggestions? Fix it or get a new system? I've asked around to lots of tech-inclined people if they know anyone locally who would know anything but I've had no luck.

Thanks

Re: PS3 worth fixing?

I'd get a new one.
Probably the 250 GB uncharted bundle for 299.

It's paying a little more than sending it to Sony, but meh.
I don't see it as worth it. They're totally ripping you off.

You could try to fund someone to fix it locally for cheaper. Much cheaper.
Or just get a new one.

If you're having trouble finding someone who fixes them, check Kijiji. There's usually someone nearby who does it for like, $40.

Do a google search for places near you that would repair it, that would probably work out to be the cheapest option. Even if you can't find a place that would do it cheaper, get it fixed by Sony would still probably be your cheapest option. After a brief search, the cheapest new one I found was $100 dearer than just fixing your current system.

Playstation PS3 YLOD - XBOX 360 RROD Wii PSP PERMANENT Repairs - City of Toronto Video Games for Sale - Kijiji City of Toronto Canada.

I'm not sure where you're from, but the GTA is a pretty big area, just in case.

Thanks! I will search some more for someone to repair it... I just really don't want to pay 150 bucks to loose my game data. That uncharted bundle sounds sweet. I'm in BC right now but I'm sure there must be something near Vancouver which is not too far to go.

Can't you just take out the hDD if you're that worried?
