WARNING: Watch out for Vista Home Security 2012

It's an EXTREMELY malicious rogue spyware that shuts down all your internet browsers and even anti-spyware software, making you think you're infected (which obviously you are) and tries to sell protection. DON'T BUY IT. It's a scam to steal your info.

I'm running this on Safe Mode right now so I could spread the warning. Gonna try and get rid of this now.

Something like that happened to me on Windows XP two years ago. This thing popped up, my background changed to "WARNING: You HAVE A VIRUS!" and it wanted me to buy a program. I went to safe mode, took all my files and put them on an external hard drive, then deleted everything and completely restarted my computer from scratch.

Should had gotten a Mac.us

That is one of the oldest malwares in the book.

Listen to Pietro, get Malware bytes. You'll have it off your computer in less than 10 minutes.

Get a scanner (malwarebytes) and get a proper antivirus, something like Avast. A firewall wouldn't be a bad idea either. Try Comodo.

And for the future, have a Linux live CD/USB handy to get rid of nasty software when you can't do it in Windows.

I swear I say the same exact things in every "omg I have a virus" thread.

Alright, so I'm scanning with Malware as we speak. It was almost stopped by the malware, but then I got the bright idea to Run As Administrator. It's thankfully doing a full scan of everything. Now I fight anxiety while playing the waiting game.

If this is successful, I owe Pietro and Aniday a tuna sandwich.

I would also like a sandwich.

I highly suggest you Google it to learn more. It's a pain in the ass to write on my Wii. Also, could you please provide a link so that others might learn of it? Thanks.

Am I the only one who intentionally tries to get spyware only to laugh at it's feeble attempts to take over my system as I run Malwarebytes to get of it?

Not everyone has Mac money. I had this once and it ♥♥♥♥ed up my entire computer.

So I got rid of it with Malwarebytes and then did a system restore (because my computer was recommending it on start up).

Now I'm looking into Secunia to see if I can strengthen my computer's defenses.

Well, I've had instances where a fake scanner popped up and said that my computer was infected. But this is the first time something like this completely hijacked my computer.

Out of curiosity Blizz, what antivirus program did you have running that let something like the old Vista Home Security virus through?


Whatever your answer is, just get avast! and run scans every so often (I do mine once a week because laaaaaaaaaazy).

I have several programs that I use:

Ad-Aware
Malwarebytes
Quick Care
Microsoft Security Essentials
SUPER Anti-Spyware

I'm so up to my ears in this ♥♥♥♥ that...yeah...

Also, all of these are free version. We don't have the money to buy the proper ones.

You took the cheap way out... T_T

When I got the XP version a few years back I manually killed the processes and deleted all the files. That took FOREVER to track things down.

Did the result say why it was a bad idea?
