Vista, on the whole, is more customizable than XP. Some options were removed (which was stupid) but it was generally a step forward.

It didn't scale down nearly as well as XP. And rendering window decorations and the toolbar in direct3D is ridiculous. (And yes, 7 does this as well.) Also, no DOS support. No up button on my god damn file browser. Giant install footprint.
Mmm, alright, so a caveat: Was better in almost every way for desktop use. For laptops, I agree, it's a poor OS choice, even now.

Mac. I don't really like Windows (not including Windows 7 which I have not used) for reasons such as this

and it's tendency to crash.

I also enjoy the user interface more. And I can use wine if I want to use many Windows applications.

It doesn't crash if you have identical hardware and install from the retail disk. You know, as there's official drivers for support hardware.

I use nothing to run the OS X applications that don't exist.

I'm sorry, I had no idea I wasn't allowed to insult Apple. They are trendy, after all.

The majority of computers I've used with Windows on it have crashed countless times. That is what I base my statement off.

The single Mac I've used that hasn't had any problems, small or big, is an iBook G4 I used at a friends place for an hour. I've used tens, maybe hundreds.

I'd also say that the majority of computers running Windows that you've used cost on average about a fourth of the Macs you have used. Most have probably also run an OS from 2001 from it. (Maybe you should try OS X 10.1 and see if you love OS X as much tben)
It's nice to see you are making such a fair statement with an even standing ground.

You're allowed to like Apple as much as you want, but that doesn't make you any less "look at me"-esque.

Hey guys let's state our unchanged opinion 100% of the time in every technology thread that everyone already know and doesn't actually care about any more, if we keep doing this our egos can grow and grow and grow and people will think we're so cool because we we all must be infallible right?

You know what? You're right.

Why hasn't your 'opinion' changed yet?

And my opinion changed when I discovered Linux 8 or so years ago. Hurray, we all have dynamic opinions!

What? How can you be bored of a kernel? It's a tool to get things done. That's like saying you're bored of hammers. Hell, it's even less like that, as you rarely interface with the kernel directly at all.

*sigh* If you're going to be like that than I give up, you've made the technology section a horrible place to go to.

Re: Your O/S. Windows, Mac, Linux, Other?

Can someone explain to me why Vista is considered a step down from XP?

Of course, when I used XP it was just for playing Roller Coaster Tycoon, going on the internet and making word documents... but still, my actions haven't changed much, except for trading RCT for Photoshop and doing pointless stuff in my spare time like video editing. Vista runs fine for me with the stuff I do, and I besides the random crashing from having too many programs open at once, it never seems to have problems.

Really, it doesn't seem like a total step downward.

EDIT: Also, why do people get so freaking annoyed with others technology choices?
Does it... I don't know, matter?

I agree entirely.

The only parts about his posts that I have seen that are useful is when he gives advice on how to use linux. Any other post I see him bashing Macs because he can't seem to just understand that Macs are what some people like. I like Macs; I don't like the price they charge you for one, though. This is why eBay exists.

Going to be like what? Your previous post didn't make any sense.

I understand that some people like them. I don't understand why. The justification part seems to always get left out.

Have you read any of the crap in these threads? People like them because they are more user friendly, they are easier to use, they are stable, they don't blow up, the are generally considered better for music editing...
