What OS do you use?

Thats good. See? You are happy with your computer. Some people see (i guess value) in apples laptops or there other computers. I will have to ask my dad why he always bought apple computers over something else =/ Might help me explain. lol

Apple doesn't have better build quality than others (see the chart previously posted). Apple has one of the highest profit margins of any PC manufacters out there. They just pretty it up a little bit with a sleek look and charge too much for it.

Most apple laptops do not have 2 video cards.

Some Macbook Pro Laptops have 2 video cards (17" and select 15" models), but they are not the only laptop manufacterer who offers this. This is available on other laptops (for a lot cheaper too)

when you talk price. You cant just compare specs. You have to compare everything.

And my dad just told me a lot of that (over priced margin) goes into R&D for other products and OS X. If Dell made there own OS for there computers (you have to pay to keep up on those) they would have higher prices to.

Apple has higher priced hardware then PCs do but the software is cheaper then what dell/Microsoft sell software for.

The cost you pay for windows license on a PC is what YOU pay. Not what dell pays to license windows or what microsoft gets from profits.

I am an IT Manager, I care very much about computer costs

EDIT: Yes what I pay for a windows license. But that's included when you buy a PC from Dell. That windows license goes to paying for R&D for windows.

I didn't say they don't pump some money in R&D, I was just stating that Microsoft does too and that when you buy a Dell, you also pay for Microsofts R&D/etc.

Just look it up, from what I've seen (various sources, just google that ****) apple has 40% margins on imacs vs 17% margins for Dell (I hate Dell btw, I just use them for example reasons)

I run on my Dad's new OS Uberstudent, It's built off of Ubuntu so its quite similar.

All it is is brand independent people pointing out the many faults in purchasing a mac, and people who have, for some reason, decided to defend a faceless corporation either claiming that they don't care (then why are you posting, and why are you posting a GIANT-ASS rage face followed by a post in all caps?) or that they're being persecuted.

I'm just trying to have a discussion about the topic at hand- operating systems. Now, if you don't care then feel free not to post in this thread. If you do care, then actually rebut my arguments rather than just saying "I DONT CARE AND YOURE BEING MEAN." for pointing out that macs are extremely expensive, mediocre in reliability, and are, by the fact that they use processors with Intelx86/AMDx86_64 architectures, PCs.

No, they do not have good video cards. They have old, mediocre nVidia cards. My much cheaper laptop has a high end card that came out in January. (My high-end laptop cost as much as the entry level mac book- and has better specs than the macbook pro)

...and again, Apple is exactly middle of the road when it comes to build quality. My laptop is from, by far, the most reliable manufacturer today. (Asus)

The R&D cost for my OS of choice is $0, and it is the most common, fastest moving, most secure OS in existence, with better driver support than any other OS. Apple could easily adopt this OS, and they would be embraced by the FLOSS community, but they don't.

And besides, most non-apple PCs have Windows installed. When you buy a PC with Windows installed, the cost of Windows is factored in, so that's really a non-point.

1. I Hate having to deal with viruses and virus protection management.

2. Through personal experience I don’t like Windows in general as an OS and much prefer OS X. Like I’ve said before, choosing and working with an operating system is a personal experience and works differently with different people and their workflow. I would hackintosh, but that’s far more trouble than I’d like to go through with making sure hardware is compatible and hoping software updates don’t bork the OS.

3. Customer Service with Apple is better in my area with my own experience backing that up.

And the list goes on and it’s all personal preference like any computer/OS choice. No one is retarded for choosing what computer they want to use. Have some maturity, man. Seriously. What’s this discussion going to do in the end? I will still use a Mac and you’ll still use a PC and we’ll both like our choices. It doesn’t matter.
